Hey CAF,

Is the John Wayne Cancer Foundation aligned with Catholic Morals… specifically stem cells?

thanks,
Hokie

I can’t say for sure, as I know nothing about the foundation. However, I will say that it is highly unlikely that any research done by any facility or foundation is in line with Catholic teachings when it comes to stem cell research. I think most of them will use stem cells from embryonic tissues, so that would be a violation.

It is possible to use stem cells that are not from embryonic tissues, but I think most facilities will opt to use them anyway. There really is no need to, as we could use cells from other sources, including umbilical cords, and “adult” cells. But the scientific community will push for the use of embryos.

John Wayne is out of a Catholic hospital, so I would assume so.
