I was wondering if anyone else has read this book. I’ve been reading it for the last month and just love it. It has to be the best book I’ve read sinse reading lord of the rings.
Any thoughts?

I read it a couple of years ago, and it’s still oneof my favorite books.
It was was a perfect book for me - I love to read fantasy, am very interested in Napoleonic-era history, and Trollope is my favorite English author. I loved the footnotes, and the plot was astounding.

If I may suggest another favorite of mine in a similar vein, you might enjoy also enjoy Tad Williams’ “The War of the Flowers”.

Wonderful book. :yup:
It’s quite quirky yet delightfully so, isn’t it?

I thought it was kind of interesting that it wasn’t a happily ever after ending. I’m not used to endings like that, but it fit.

I’ve recently finished this and have to say, I was really disappointed. It starts off real strong and I was very intrigued. But after the magic of the talking statues, it dropped off into never-never land. I was bored. I kept reading hoping it would get better and it did near the end. But otherwise I thought Clare was in need of a good editor - one who could’ve taken this 800 page book and edited it down to 200-300 pages.
