Well I finally put the “I don’t have much free time” routine to rest and got in contact with my local council. I turned in my application and am waiting for their response. They are supposed to get to me soon about when the next 1st degree will be. I am trying to be patient and not keep bothering them about it. ::rolleyes:

I am looking forward to getting involved. I joined primarily to get plugged in with fellow Catholic men (as a convert all my family and friends are protestant or not religious) and to get involved in service opportunities with my parish. The movie “For the Greater Glory” also helped push me to get involved with them. They are very active at my parish (In part no doubt because my pastor is the main KOC Chaplain in our Archdiocese)

I just wanted to share my enthusiasm

Enthusiasm tends to be contagious so I hope all goes well with your application and the proceedings.

Prayers for you and all Knights as you proceed forward!~

Mary.

Hey good for you man. I think that’s just super. I always kind of envied that. The guys getting together and doing stuff. I don’t know. Seems like it would be kind of fun.

Peace.

God Bless you and praying for your acceptance into the world’s largest Catholic fraternity. I’m a 3rd Degree and find it very rewarding personally and spiritually. It’s great to be among other Catholic men and I hope you find all your expectations exceeded.

👍

Coincidentally, the hubs decided to join yesterday as well!
I know you will find blessing in working with other Catholic men to make a difference.

I had always been aware of the intellectual and services side of Catholicism. The K of C has that, but after joining I also learned about the fraternal, which the K of C is strong on. At a time when so many Catholic institutions have either secularized or compromised somewhat, the K of C stands strong with the Church and the Faith. I am still continuing to grow in the lessons I learned in making my degrees.

Welcome!

My husband just joined & I am so proud of him! 🙂

Good luck with your initiation. 👍

Welcome aboard! Council meetings are held once a month and not every meeting has a 1st degree. If you are anxious to join, talk to your Council about seeing if you can be part of a 1st Degree ceremony at a neighboring Council, my 1st Degree ceremony was held in a nearby suburb on a Sunday afternoon. My 2nd and 3rd degree was on a Saturday night with other guys from all over the DSM metro getting their 2nd & 3rd degree as well. It doesn’t have to be a regular monthly council meeting to get your degrees.

I’m not as involved with my Council as I want as i’m currently Exalted Ruler (think Grand Knight) of the local Elks Lodge. That said, I love working the fish frys during Lent for the fellowship and fun.

I’m going for my 2nd & 3rd degrees this coming Sunday in Clarksburg, WV.

Vivat Jesus!

Not a big deal. Our Bishop has banned the wearing of ceremonial swords on any church property. This is his Diocese and we respectfully comply. 🙂
But you can still get a sword later when you’re a higher degree knight? You just have to keep it at home, right? I mean you’ve gotta get the sword at some point, right?

I was always under the impression that the swords were for 4th degrees but could be wrong.

I know one of our neighbor Parish don’t allow the sword but ours does and they frequently wear them for the Mass honor guard when they have it. I think it’s great and accents the knightly aspect of the KOC.

I don’t understand why the swords wouldn’t be allowed. I mean if you can’t trust your own knights there’s something wrong. I don’t know. I guess I’m just a little too fixated on the swords right now. Maybe I should think about the hats instead.

Peace.

The sword is optional; not all Knights have them.
