I don’t understand why the swords wouldn’t be allowed. I mean if you can’t trust your own knights there’s something wrong. I don’t know. I guess I’m just a little too fixated on the swords right now. Maybe I should think about the hats instead.

Peace.

I don’t think it’s a matter of trusting the Knights so much as opening a door to other groups who may feel they have equal rights to, say, bringing in a gun or wearing a hunting knife on their belt while at Mass. It’s not that much of a bother; as I mentioned in my earlier response, it’s an option. The sword does not make the Knight. 👍

Well I don’t know. I mean that’s sort of like telling the baker to leave the rolling pin at home. But then again, why would the baker be walking around with a rolling pin? Maybe it’s more like telling the butcher that he shouldn’t play with knives. Or something. Because a knight without a sword has a name. A knight without a sword is a squire. 😉

Perhaps in the “old days” what you say would have more validity. Knights do protect the clergy. We do so in many ways but we do not use our swords! (As much as some brother Knights may feel compelled when we escort our Bishop during public events.) 🙂

I like to think our sword is a reminder of our tradition much like the Bishop’s staff is a reminder of his duty to shepherd his Diocesan flock. I don’t think our Bishop (or any for that matter) would physically use the crook at the top to capture someone and bring him to Mass nor would he use the other end to poke/push/prod someone away from the church. It’s just a symbolic reminder of our tradition. 👍

BTW Knights of Columbus do have a Squire group: young men under 18 years old. Sometimes these might be altar servers or the sons of Knights preparing to become Knights themselves.

Ok. I guess you can be a knight without a sword. I guess that’s allowed. I’ve changed my mind. 😉

Well I’m not ready to be one yet myself. You have to be good. And pure. And holy first. I think. But thanks for the offer. Thanks so much for that. Maybe someday.
I’m a Council officer. If we all had to be good, pure, or holy, I think we ALL have to resign! Good thing the Knights aren’t looking for perfect people; we’re just looking for Catholic men who want to protect the faith, family, and the church. Give is some serious thought. God Bless you! :knight1:

Ok thanks.

I am now a Knight! I thought the 1st degree went well and the guys did a great job from my perspective.

I joined the KoC 7 or so mths ago.Became a 1st degree,a 2 hr process.A little archaic but not unpleasant. Then a few mths later went for 2cd and 3rd degree in one day.Ps. Study your rosary ,KoC history and some catholic fundamentals. It all went well.Morning a little lunch ,mid afternoon and we were saying our goodbyes.
Then I was expecting a little more at meetings. It was lot’s about Bus meetings and boys club.I wanted to see things like the old days.Go to widows and orphans to help them out.Got a little disappointed. It wasn’t like that.I wasn’t sure I wanted to stay in this outfit.
So I gave it another chance. One more Business meeting.I was pleasantly surprised by letting go of great accomplishments and telling myself that little ones would suffice.Fundraisers are an issues. Our diosese decide against casino nights which were a great source of funds.Due to the nature of addiction for some ,the Archbishop decided prudent not to participate in such activities. The area councils voted that from then o, no council would participate in casino fundraisersSo we are looking at fundraisers that would be more acceptable.I came out with a more sedated view, enjoy the ride.I might just stick around for a while. It’s not perfect but just do the best I can then let go and let God. Cheers to any that might decide to try KoC.

Sometimes, what let’s us down the most, is our expectations and not the reality. KOFC, like many parish lay ministries, is about doing a lot of little things and, every now and then, participating in a few big things. For example, I choose to spend some of my day’s just being with my aging father so I can be his driver, clean his yard, and be his companion during meals so he eats better. Not glamorous but in the vein of the highest calling of a Catholic. My KOFC jurisdiction has raised enough money to donate an ultrasound machine that had directly influenced at least 75 pregnant women to NOT have an abortion and we’re raising money to donate another. Small things and big things add up. The key is to find how to honor God in every action we do and to worship Him in all our thoughts. 🙂

Yes,that’s good advice for serving KoC and life.A motto of mine is “do what’s in front of you”.

That’s terrific! It’s a venerable organization. Stay involved and go to the meetings !

Had my 2nd degree yesterday. Another great and inspiring ceremony. Going to go help cook hotdogs with the knights for st francis day. All going well and I suggest the organization to everyone.
