Hi everyone,
I like to tell good jokes that help people in their faith and joy. I often think of some jokes during Holy Hours of adoration. I don’t always know how good they are though. I’ve done standup comedy before, and I would like to use humor to help teach and spread the faith. I try to tell jokes that do not offend Church teaching at all, and actually make someone think about one of the mysteries of the faith. I am often too didactic when I talk to people about the faith, especially those who are not Catholic. But I joke around a lot with my Catholic friends, trying to make their faith journey more joyful and to help them persevere through trials and crosses. I sent this in an email to some of my Catholic friends:
Me was at Church for my Holy Hour today, and got some funny jokes while praying.
First of all, I’m considering voting for the Holy Ghost in this year’s election. I think He would make a very good president. Holy Ghost for President 2012. I guess you’ll have to write in his name, since He isn’t actually on the ballot in any of the 57 states. I’m trying to decide whether to write in “Kingdom of God” or just “Heaven” in the space where His address is supposed to go. Maybe we can get one of the current candidates to choose Him as a running mate for Vice President. This country would straighten out real quickly if the Holy Ghost was in charge of vice.
I was talking to the Holy Ghost and I thought of a really funny joke. I asked Him if He wanted to hear it. He said “I know that one already.”
I’m thinking of getting a SmartPhone. I’m hoping it can translate all of the stupid things I say into language that almost seems like it makes some sense.
Hope these will brighten your day tomorrow! Listen closely to the readings at Mass, and pray for your pastor as He gives His homily.
May God bless each and every one of your souls.
Joshua
