My friend was telling a joke in the background about someone and it wasnt that it was really bad but he was swearing in it. After he said the joke I started laughing kind of uncontrolled then by myself. After this happened I felt bad. Keep in mind when you are replying to this post that you know that I have been suffering from bad scrupoles and have had the urge to confess every little thing. Is this one of these thing that you just forget about? was this a sin?

I think not. The fact that you are reflecting on it and your response to it does not in itself imply that your response was sinful.

I’ll confess that I’ve seen movies or cartoons flipping through the channels that are entirely inappropriate, but have tickled my funny bone. South Park is a good example.

It’s kinda like you know you shouldn’t be laughing, but you do anyway. Say a prayer and forget about it.

I work in construction where this goes on all day. Sometimes I laugh at some inappropriate humor. I really do not see this as a mortal sin. At the end of the day I just ask our Lord to help me the next day and for His forgiveness. If I were to run to confession each time, I would need an on-the-job priest. 😊

This world can be a very difficult place and certain situations can really make it difficult but we must continue to try. Jesus sees that we do try and knows our hearts.

Now go and say something nice about someone and dwell on your Christ-like behavior for a while…teachccd 🙂

Yeah,me,too! But,if being a carpenter was good enough for Jesus, well,by golly,it’s good enough for me,too.
My trick is to just try not to engage in the same foul language-the visual imagery that some jokes evoke is a problem.
Of course,I generally quietly beg for forgiveness.
The thought occurred to me once(which I like to believe was a ‘word’ from The Lord) that Jesus hung out with hard core sinners, and that Paul said he became all things to all people in order that he might win a few.
That didn’t really make me feel less ashamed in my spirit, but I do like to think that my lack of telling the same sort of joke is a silent witness to my faith.
I also try to respond with what I call a ‘Jesus bomb’ -which is often (I like to believe) a Holy Spirit inspired joke revelling in the absurdity of lifes situation loosely cloaked in some sort of familiar scriptural reference.Paraphrased the way JCsuperstar was.
However,sin is sin.However venial.
True contrition is actually favorable and these little mishaps sort of make me happy:shrug: 🤷 that I have an excuse to be humbled before The Lord.
"THE IMITATION OF MARY"in the very first chapter says:
“We try to adapt ourselves to our friends’ character and to make their likes and dislikes our own.Such adaption leads to a union of hearts. In fact,we may say that where there is no likeness there can be no friendship.”
:twocents: for a cup of:coffee:
