Jose Rizal.. a heretic?

Oh please. That’s the usual stuff you get from Philippine history books. But the Masonic association of Rizal and the Katipunan people colors the whole thing, casting a cloak of anti-clerical prejudice over the history.

All I know is this: Quezon wanted a Philippines that’s ruled like hell by Filipinos rather than ruled like heaven by Americans. Well, I hope he’s happy, because that’s exactly what he got.

The politicos have turned this otherwise lovely archipelago into a hellhole of corruption. I do not appreciate people stealing from me, which is what they do every time my car falls into a pothole, or whenever we hear of them resisting lifestyle checks. This is a nation where the uneducated masses have massive voting power that put a dropout actor into the Presidential chair and very nearly put another.

I am Filipino only by virtue of jus sanguinis, whether I like it or not. I never said I’m proud to be one. Why do you think I have a pending application for immigration to another nation? But because I have this citizenship thrust upon me, I obey this nation’s laws and pay this nation’s taxes. Don’t ask me for any more than that.

As for my history, yeah, the thing was shoved down my throat back in college. And the blood of those soldiers is being betrayed by the present leadership and political immaturity of the people who now inhabit the Islands.

Anyway, admission to the US is a long shot now and is not realistic. I still think independence was a mistake; we should have at least remained a Commonwealth. But since all that is water under the bridge, the next best thing for me is to reorganize into a Federal form of government.

“Ruled like heaven by the Americans”… This has got to be one of the most foolish statements I’ve seen in a long time. Do you REALLY think us Americans have a government that rules “like heaven”? Do you not see the moral decay that we have here in the US and the corruption of our institutions and politicians? We are on a downward spiral. Rotting from the inside out. I’m not saying i’m not proud to be an American, I am – I’m proud of our history (for the most part) which is why it hurts to see where our future is apparently heading. I would NEVER say I’m not proud to be of the land of my birth. Filipinos have much to be proud of! I’m sorry that you have looked down your nose at an entire people as if you are somehow on the moral high road – better than those you’ve left behind. You view those in the land of your birth as inept and immature. The country is still in its infancy, struggling to overcome years of occupation and persecution from foreign powers. Many countries around the world are in the same boat. Where there is poverty and struggle, there is often corruption. It is a hard thing to overcome. People who have integrity and honor fight to overcome the issues that plague their country – others run and never look back. It is always a delight to see those who have left the country to better themselves, but once again return to the land of their birth to give back to their community. I’ve known many Filipinos – and Mexicans for that matter --who, once they’ve bettered themselves, returned to retire in the Philippines or Mexico.
