I was raised a Catholic, converted to mormonism after falling away from the church and falling for a girl. I didn’t marry her, so after she left the singles ward and I was still known as her convert boyfriend, I fell away from that too. I started praying for God to show me what to do. I felt empty. He sent me the fear of death and an unhealthy anxiety. It occured to me that I hadn’t been to confession since confirmation, and only after I went did I have these feelings slowly removed by His grace.

Is it possible that Joseph Smith really did receive some revelation from God, just to lead me and any other reverts through the Latter Day Saint school of repentence back home to the sacrament of Reconciliation?🤷

Not likely.

You could make the same case for porn addictions, alcoholism, and gambling.😃

The lds church can make you a better catholic because the lds church teaches a good moral code of conduct. Many catholics could learn from this moral code. Also, the lds pray often and they are taught to do so from an early age. To pray often can also make you a better catholic.

I can mention more but that will suffice. And so, JS did make you a better catholic if you are living a good moral code and praying often thanks to lds influence.

I wasn’t raised as a member of a Christian church. My first experience with Christ in a church setting came through Mormonism. I think I’m a better Catholic for having gone through Mormonism than I would have been if I had entered the Catholic Church as a teenager. In my experience there wouldn’t have been enough support within your normal Catholic parish to have helped me become a mature Catholic.

Welcome home!

God is Good! When we chose a wrong turn in our life, He is still there and for His Love, He gave you some options to select from which lead you back to Him.

As you understood about yourself “the fear of death and an unhealthy anxiety.” - He opened up the path that lead you back Home.

I imagine you could make the same argument about Scientology, Chrsitian Science, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Seventh Day Adventists or a whole host of other traditions.

What Mormonism did for me, I will say, is really make me appreciate how important it is to stand up for God’s glory.

Many catholics could learn from this moral code. said:
This is a stretch WhyMe, I’ve been LDS for 1/2 my life and to be honest some of the most rotten, dishonest, immoral people I know are LDS, on the other hand some of the most decent, honest, selfless people i know are NOT Mormon but Catholic…

You are correct. God can use anybody or anything to make us remember him. I do not hesitate to admit that I learn the second command of Jesus from Buddhism.

Let me clarify my post as I was in a hurry when I wrote it and failed to clearly convey my point. Yes I’m 100% sure there are rotten Catholics and on the flip side all of my closest friends are Mormon (I do live in the heart of Mormon central) who are as considerate, generous, kind and loving as any human beings can be.

The point of my earlier post is that Mormons don’t have a corner on the market of spirituality, prayer, and all other things religious. They do however often times act like they do. So when a mormon implies that they are more spiritual, pray more, give more, etc, I take exception to that because it is simpy not true.

Joseph Smith is from the spirit of the anti-Christ. Did you find anything in common with Mormon doctrine and Roman Catholic doctrine? How about extra-biblical sources and a form of apostolic succession?

Not likely. Mormonism comes from the apostles of an American Jesus, who sat on mountain tops shelling out lightning bolts after his ascension (which is even more unlikely!). The book of Mormon claims to have come from early believers but it’s authenticity can only be verified in the 1800s and not anytime earlier than that.

The CC follows the Tradition that comes from the 12 apostles. These are not made up, there were actually twelve and you can easily verify this. Also, Sacred Scripture stems from Sacred Tradition, Jesus taught many things orally. It’s not like he was followed by every conceivable scholar that captured in writing every word that was later put on the Bible.

Do you know who they blame for the great apostasy?

I have a very good article that has more info on the LDS tradition from an unbiased source. If you would like more on this then send me a PM. I’ll be glad to share.

That would make for one really sick-minded, untrustworthy deity, hence… I doubt it.

And exactly how is this moral code or affinity to prayer any different in the Catholic Church?

The OP stated s/he was raised Catholic, converted to Mormonism and then reverted back to Catholicism. S/he’s coming from the viewpoint that Catholicism is absolutely true. If this is the case, and one can find morality and prayer in Catholicism what need was there for God to lead this soul through Mormonism and then back to Catholicism other than to mess with his mind?

They… the Mormon Christians. They also blame the Roman Catholic Church for distorting the Bible.
Well the many exegeses of scripture point to many denominations doing the same to each other.

That’s where objective Truth has to come in.
