I’m sure this has been mentioned here before, but unfortunately I wasn’t around for the explanation…
Joshua 5:13-15 reads,
13 While Joshua was near Jericho, he raised his eyes and saw one who stood facing him, drawn sword in hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, “Are you one of us or of our enemies?”
14 He replied, “Neither. I am the captain of the host of the LORD and I have just arrived.” Then Joshua fell prostrate to the ground in worship, and said to him, “What has my lord to say to his servant?”
15 The captain of the host of the LORD replied to Joshua, “Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy.” And Joshua obeyed.
Now, I must ask the usual questions:
Is this “one who stood facing him” God? or is it an angel?
If it is an angel, why does the angel command Joshua to remove his sandals “for the place on which you are standing is holy” just as I AM (as a burning bush) commands Moses to in the book of Exodus?
And if it is not God, why does Joshua fall down in worship?
However, if it is God, is it the Son? It is an early Incarnation of the Son?
How is this passage to be explained?
