I’ve heard that Jesus’ name in Hebrew is Yashua, which is sometimes spelt as “Joshua” is some cultures.

I’ve noticed that there is a book in the OT by the prophet Joshua.

Does this prophet and the Son of God share the same name?

I understand that Jesus/Joshua/Jeshua mean “he who saves”.

It doesn’t need to be exclusively Jesus’ name, as He was of course, also of Jewish birth. Mary, as Miriam, was also an accepted Jewish name. Bless you, Trishie

The Savior’s name is indeed Joshua.

“Jesus” comes to us through Iesous, which is simply Greek for Joshua.

Jesus’ legal name in Hebrew was Yeshua ben Yosef.

Likewise, Mary’s “real” name is Miriam. Again, “Mary” comes to us through the Greek, then Latin in their respective renditions of the Hebrew name.

Yep. Yeshua (an abbreviation of the name Yehoshua, much like how ‘Bill’ is short for ‘William’) was apparently a common name in Jesus’ time (thus the reason why He is called ‘Yeshua Natsraya’ or ‘Yeshua bar-Yosef’); one out of ten persons back then was named such.
