I remember watching an EWTN documentory on the miracles of Lourdes, France. Apparently there was a whole lot of scientific investigation concerning the miraculous cures of diagnosed diseases and physical ailments. Does anyone know where I could find good scholarly articles and information about this?

Thanks, God bless!

I think that the best place to start would be at the official Lourdes website. Below is the link to the site that deals with the miracles that have occurred as well as the process of how a cure is finally determined to be miraculous.

Here are some links at the EWTN library that speaks of the miraculous cures…

When researching the miracles at Lourdes or even Saint Bernadette herself you have to be very careful. The authors of these books have varying accounts of her life and the miracles which range from disbelief to almost unheard of piety. Some of the better books are in French and have yet to be translated into any other language.

The best way to do any research on any of the miracles is to go straight to the source which is the commission that determines whether or not a cure can be attributed to a miracle. There are literally thousands that have beem claimed but I believe that the commission has only definitively ruled on about 65 of them as being miraculous in nature. Not at all saying that the others were not also miraculous, only that the commission has not ruled on them. My understanding is that they have not recognized a miraculous cure in several years.

There is a tremendous amount of general hostility towards these cures on the part of many, who will apparently stop at nothing to discredit them in any way whatsoever.

As far as Bernadette, herself I would reccommened reading a wide variety of what is available as the events of her life are interpreted in many different ways by the different authors. If you only read several you will almost invariably come away unsatisfied with what you get from it.

Good luck on your search.

Saint Bernadette by the way is my Patron Saint:thumbsup: and has been there for me often. More often than I deserve actually.😊

Our Lady of Lourdes thank you. Saint Bernadette thank you.

Peace

After reading many critiques, I recently purchased “Saint Bernadette Soubirous” by Abbe Francois Trochu (English edition 1957). Give it some thought as a supplement to your research on the Lourdes miracles.

Great book! Also try Bernadette Speaks: A Life of St. Bernadette Soubirous in Her Own Words by Fr. Rene Laurentin
