Happy Shrove Tuesday!
Here in Aus we celebrate with Pancakes and festivities in the streets.
This is my first Lenten season for decades. The next 6 weeks or so seem like quite a journey through and into faith.
What does fasting, penance and almsgiving mean. After Divine Mercy Sunday maybe I will have some insights. Maybe not.
What does it mean to you?
Saturday 3rd September, 2016 I first walked back into a deserted Church, Sunday 4th September , first Mass. Things had changed in the Church, God hadnt.
The journey back to Faith, back to God , has seen a wordly veil continue to from my eyes. Where is faith in God active, where is temptation and detraction from Faith and God strongest. Snares active, despair in the world, and Joy. So much has been given up, and taken up.
THis journey has meant making new and wonderful friends in Christ. Learning what love your neighbour, charity, prayer and penance are about. Or what I think they are about at this minute.
This journey has also meant family and old friends, still in the world, unready to accept the gift of Faith yet, or very lukewarm, have a firm belief my complete change is linked to lunacy or mental illness. No matter that I have absolutely no history of either. Why else would someone suddenly change their set of beliefs, their value system.
They are scrutinizing my actions, words, ways. The old me used to swear, new me doesnt, except the occasional habitual slip. My dear old friends and family then say ‘oh "Christians dont swear!’ Shocked.
God is working in their lives too.
