Hamburger U !! That’s cute.
I know of one very famous fundamentalist Ph.D. whose doctorates
college & Post grad were all from Diploma mills (Hamburger U’s),
namely one “Dr.” Walter Martin, author of THE KINGDOM OF THE CULTS.
NYU is a diploma mill?

Walter Martin’s degrees were from California Coast University, which has only become accredited in recent years.
He has been dead since 1988.

And he was calling himself “Dr.” Walter Martin long before he ever received his “Ph.D.”

You didn’t say “not accredited”. You said “diploma mill”.

Adelphi University is an accredited, reputable school.

Washington Bible College is a very much respected, accredited school.

New York University is an accredited school and, by all accounts, a very good one.

I see what you’re saying.
After your first response, I did a google on Walter Martin’s degrees. At his organizations website is an article defending his degree from California Coast University.
As of this moment, I suspend all judgment on the matter.

But having valid degrees doesn’t make a person CORRECT.
Dr. D. James Kennedy of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, who is a fine man and a man of many academic accomplishments, is still incorrect in his belief in Calvinism.

Next time, maybe you should do the research first, instead of being in such a frenzy to condemn non-Roman Catholics.

Walter Martin has proven himself. D. James Kennedy has proven himself. You have not. The pope has not.

First of all, no one is in a “frenzy” to condemn anybody.
I’ve been reading this thread and the only smart-aleck on this thread, frankly, is YOU.
Your behavior and habitually insulting tone proves that you give no evidence of the Holy Spirit indwelling you. If He is indwelling you, you are ignoring His good inspirations and behaving like a jerk.

As for the Pope “has not” proved himself, that is purely your subjective opinion, based on nothing other than your own protestant bias. Pope Benedict’s academic record alone would make even James Kennedy (as well educated as he is),
look like a dilettante by comparison.

Oh did the Pope miss a diploma or two? Would you like him more if he graduated from Bob Jones University? Ten more diplomas on the wall ad he will be holy enough for you? Wow. :whacky: :whacky:

Really? Who did I call illiterate? Who’s beliefs did I call laughable? I didn’t. That was you two.

So then what excuse do you two have?

Not likely, I’ve been an ardent critic of BJU, even to the point of picketing them.

I’m not the one who brought up diplomas. Your side did.

The truth is, some of the Godliest men and some of the greatest preachers I’ve ever known have had very little formal education.

Likewise, I don’t care what the Pope’s educational background. I’m much more concerned that he doesn’t know the Bible.

Oh. I think that is the most absurd statement I have ever heard about the Pope and I have fifty years of absurdities I’ve listened to. Except one- There was this guy who wondered because Pope John Paul II ate two eggs, bacon and toast for breakfast if we should all be eating two eggs, bacon and toast for breakfast. That was pretty silly. But yours- defies the thinking of everyone in the world- Christian or not.

** Congratulations! You win todays Tequilamac’s daily absurd statement prize.**

ahh… the words of Fr. John Corapi come to mind for you mikemck

“He has educated himself into imbecility.”

and no, not all Roman Catholics are idiots, but thanks anyway for exposing your doubts in yourself by getting so defensive.

.

I see. So, first you call me illiterate. Then you call my beliefs laughable. Now, you call me an “imbecile”.

And you guys have the nerve to say that I’m the one who isn’t showing the fruits of the Holy Spirit?

Ad hominems should not tolerated by any Christian. What I don’t like here is your assumption that our Pope doesn’t know the Bible just by being a Catholic.

As for Joyce Meyer, the real focus of the thread, I’d say that Bible as a weapon (whether it be a rock or what) is the only weapon she can use. It is believed that Bible is the sole rule of faith and hence, maybe, they are instructing the devil or are reminding themselves and the devil of Jesus’ promises for them.

No, we just find it interesting that with all of that intellect, you choose not to argue facts…just call people names and make fanatical assumptions.

Ah, the next level- outrage.

First insult the Church and the Pope and discuss the Pope as if he is a moron then when you receive the desired reaction of “Hey you are ignorant” claim to be unjustly attacked. :dancing: :dancing:

So common and so boring. Many people try this tact and it never works. But then it is just like the energizer bunny.

No one attacked you. You made a bunch of anti catholic ignorant statements about the Church, bible and Pope, were informed that is what you did and now you are mad. So what’s new?

Mike,
Such behavior might be tolerated on CARM, but it is not here. Please remember your charity.

By all means, let’s not throw stones at one another! There’s no need for that from any of us.

And I didn’t read into mikemck’s remarks that he thought the pope doesn’t know the Bible. Rather, it seems to me that he was reacting out of frustration at being attacked, and attacked first, I have to say. Nothing is accomplished by childish tit for tat, people.

The word of God is described as a “two-edged sword,” which is definitely a weapon, and a very powerful weason indeed! But, it is not the same thing as the Word of God who is the 2nd Person of the Trinity, which is really where Joyce Meyers has gone wrong in her statements.

Mike said that the Pope wouldn’t know the Bible if he choked on it. Hence my comment.

I wholeheartly agree that the Bible is a two edge sword, but that’s the only weapon they can use; we have the Rosary, etc. which are equally effective in my opinion.

So when Ms. Meyer said that we should use the Bible as the rock, she cited John 1, right? Why do you think this is being cited?

I missed that comment–but I still think he wrote such things out of frustration and anger. And I think some of that is excusable considering the uncalled for comments that have been flung his way. Yes?

Ms. Meyer is misinterpreting John 1. John is talking about Jesus, the Word of God who is and was and will be, as he describes him in Revelation. The word of God is God’s inspired words to human beings who wrote them down, but it is not and never will be the divine 2nd Person of the Trinity. For, the word of God will be fulfilled and has been fulfilled in Christ, the Word of God, who is eternally divine and who is God’s final word to man.
