sadly, i never get caught up reading RCC materials and listening to RCC speakers so i have little time to read and listen to non-RCs.

i used to read more non-RCC stuff, but eventually it dawned on me that all of the non-RCC stuff was based on erroneous foundational concepts and beliefs.

however, i do find the RCC materials i read and the RCC speakers to whom i listen to be very edifying, educational and satisfying.

There’s nothing wrong with listening to Protestant preachers etc. if you’re well grounded in your faith and ‘filter’, as one of the Catholic apologists on this website once said.

Preachers like Joyce Meyer and Joel Osteen however are slightly different… I watched quite a bit of their stuff and it seems to constantly present this happy happy joy joy gospel, where if I “speak words of faith” and believe positively God will bless me financially and materially, guaranteed.

A good article about the falsehood of the prosperity gospel and other problems with Joyce Meyer’s theology: huffingtonpost.com/pastor-rick-henderson/osteen-meyer-prosperity-gospel_b_3790384.html

^Joyce believes that Jesus literally stopped being the Son of God on the cross and ‘became’ sin. That calls into serious question just what she thinks of the nature of Jesus Himself. The other problem is how she stops believing that she can sin anymore, and encourages us all to just believe we are not sinners and simply don’t sin anymore.

And a more humorous satirical video which demonstrates the absurdity of the prosperity gospel in the light of Christian martyrs: youtube.com/watch?v=KA_wWmVlypg

Yes! I once heard say:

After Jesus died He was being tortured by demons in Hell.

:ehh::hmmm:

I am not a huge fan of televangelists because I find that most of them are using their ministries to sell their books or buy tickets to see them speak. Or they preach that God can make you wealthy if you’re faithful. I rarely hear them talk about what Jesus spoke about. I find the ones that say they can do “miracles” cough Benny Hinn and Peter Popoff cough to be the worst because its always a scam. Now I don’t watch Joyce Meyer I’ll glance by on a Sunday and hear her from my mom or grandmother’s room and I don’t ever think I heard her tell people who require a hip replacement to throw their walkers on stage because they are “healed” that being said I would much rather watch the Daily Mass than listen to Joyce Meyer

I have,on Rare occasions heard this lady speak, all I can say is…
Thank God this lady is not my Neighbour , she would drive me up the wall…
Does she never stop talking…

👍 lol - that accent drives me up the wall. she doesn’t sound very educated.

I used to watch her show before I converted mostly because she is “entertaining”. It was also a way to get my wife to pay more attention to God. My wife is a cradle Catholic who had basically left the Church when we met. She was more of a feminist/consumer than anything else so a female “preacher” caught her eye so to speak. We went to a JM show once at a mega church. There were so many people there we actually had to sit in a theater and watch her on a big screen. The lobby was filled with vendors selling JM merchandise. It was akin to going to a rock concert.

Being Catholic now and knowing the truth I’d say she is “selling” a message that to the ignorant seems good intentioned but it is meant to draw you in and keep you “buying” stuff. She is very wealthy from what I hear and owns several “mansions”. She’s no Mother Teresa. TV Evangelist have polished their act since the Tammy Faye days. You won’t see too much “freak show” these days because too many were “burned”. The show is more convincing and difficult to tell it from what’s truly God’s Word. Like others have said here - unless you are grounded in your faith you are at risk of being led astray.
