In the hymn Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee, the last line of Verse 4 is:
Joyful music leads us sunward to the triumph song of life.

Beautiful words indeed!
Here “sunward” refers to Christ the Lord, the Son.
Again, beautiful words indeed!

Always enjoyed this hymn, but especially after seeing the hip-hop/rap version that was in the movie Sister Act II. (terrible movie, but a couple of excellent songs)

The text to Beethoven’s original piece was truly an ode to joy. The lyrics of the hymn “Joyful, Joyful” fit the mood and metric pattern perfectly, in my well-reasoned and insightful opinion 🤓 😃

Indeed. It was the last movement of his Symphony #9 and it is almost incredible that he wrote it after he turned deaf, according to records kept on such matters.
