I was wondering about this but i cannot find a definite answer…won’t our joy in Heaven be diminished somewhat when we realise in heaven that some of our family and friends are in Hell?

I don’t believe in heaven anyone will have sorrow or sadness. It is also hard to imagine heaven because I believe heaven is another 4th or 5th dimension that our human minds cannot even come close to grasping.
But I have faith that if there I will be w/in the presence of God and have unlimited happiness.

The damnation of souls will be rejoiced in as an aspect of God’s perfect Justice.

The Blessed Mother appeared to the children of Lasalette, France, crying because of the souls lost to hell.

Yes, heaven will be joy, but also sorrow for those who did not make it there with us. Those who love will feel sorrow for their downfall, even in heaven. If we don’t love, we won’t make it to heaven and others who do, will feel sorrow for us.

St. Thomas Aquinas says no:

A similar question was asked awhile ago on this Forum; one of the responders posted this from C. S. Lewis’ The Great Divorce that is to the point:
“What some people say on earth is that the final loss of one soul gives the lie to all the joy of those who are saved.”
“Ye see it does not.” [Says MacDonald]
“I feel in a way that it ought to.”

That sounds’ very merciful, but see what lurks behind it."
“What?”
“The demand of the loveless and the self-imprisoned that they should be allowed to blackmail the universe: that till they consent to be happy (on their own terms) no one else shall taste joy: that theirs should be the final power; that Hell should be able to veto Heaven. . .Watch that sophistry or ye’ll make a Dog in tha Manger the tyrant of the universe.”
