I dont play games. Lets put it this way. Mormons will tell you whatever you want to hear and leave out the bad parts for their own benefit. So let me ask you this, do you believe in what the mormon prophets say is true?
I affirm and believe every true doctrine revealed by God through his oracles the prophets in every day and age. This does not mean I believe everything a prophet says is divine revelation. There’s a reason Heavenly Father grants us the gift of his Spirit: we’re to use it in discerning.

And to bring this back on topic: I use this discerning spirit when reading the KJV, as well as conference talks, articles from the Ensign, etc. Us Latter-day Saints don’t have a blind faith.

This is true. When an alleged prophet says something everyone likes, it is accepted. When he says something no one likes, or it turns out to be wrong, then he was not speaking as a prophet

Those Mormons use the old one, two!! First they tell you that you get to stop partaking of alcohol, tobacco, tea, and coffee! People who find that out are so excited they beg for more and those Mormons explain that you’re supposed to pay one-tenth of everything you make to their church!! By this time nirvana has set in and informing those interested in Mormonism that they need to stop eating or drinking for 24 hours once a month is about as fun as notifying them that they won the lottery!! And then there’s more joy explaining 3 hours of church on Sunday, activity restrictions on Sunday, no sex outside of marriage, daily prayers, daily scripture reading, holding a position of responsibility in the congregation, etc. At that point the Mormons slam the new converts with the bad stuff they’ve hidden for later!!

Just when I thought I’ve seen the most extreme conspiracy theory from an ex-Mormon…

Oh, man. Really? I’d rebut the daylights outta you on this, but, I’d get banned

Tell me, how could JS revise, rework, retranslate the Bible without seeing the original texts? Stone in a hat perhaps?

Nope. The answer is sadder. He actually used a plain ol’ King James Version. The Community of Christ (RLDS) has it on display in their “temple”

Most of his “changes” were self serving. He built his doctrine than made changes to the Bible to fit his doctrine.

Let me give you an example. Once Joseph decided to build a doctrine that there was no Trinity, he needed to change the Bible to reflect that.

Let’s look at the KJV of John 1:1

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Now look at the JST:

1 In the beginning was the gospel preached through the Son. And the gospel was the word, and the word was with the Son, and the Son was with God, and the Son was of God.

And that is how most of his translation goes. It is geared toward supporting his calling as a prophet and his strange new doctrine.

Amazing!! Do you think that the LDS church may be secretly glad that the RLDS held on to the manuscripts etc, after all if the church had adopted the JST as its definitive standard work it would have been held up to ridicule throughout the scholarly world for trustin an unsupported revision?

When I was LDS, our KJV of the Bible included JST translation as footnotes

I want to thank TexanKnight for reawakening in me with this single verse the knowledge that Joseph Smith indeed was a prophet of God. With great reluctance I’m leaving the Quaker religion and returning stronger than ever the LDS Church. Thank you TexanKnight!

1979, the LDS church released a new Bible, triple combination and quad that had the JST footnotes, and other “goodies” like maps, timelines, etc. Prior to then, everyone used your standard KJV. I still have one, I think, somewhere in a box. All marked up from my seminary days. I also have a book somewhere in a box, that lists the people involved in the production of the new KJV that LDS use. I knew one of the editors, she considered it one of the greatest things she did in her life.

Are you being sarcastic? If not then well, we will still pray for your troubled and damned soul. The quote TK posted would strengthen my belief joe smith was a bigger fraud than ever for changing Gods words.

Revelation Chpt 22 Ver 18,19

18 I warn everyone who hears the prophetic words in this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, 19 and if anyone takes away from the words in this prophetic book, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city described in this book.

My pleasure. If changes the Bible to suit your beliefs and to be self fullfilling causes you to be a stronger Mormon, then you are in the exact right spot.
