Unfortunately I cannot find the reference now. I remember reading it a couple months ago when we were having a debate about whether Christmas was really on December 25. Perhaps someone else can find it.
Respectfully not what I was discussing within the Title topic of Judaism Messiah Patrilineal Lineage…was not about Dec 25. Peace

Setting aside the question of how were the authorities going to know if a man was a step father or a real father of a child, is there anything in the Mosaic law saying a man can’t do this?
I’m not aware of anything from the Mosaic Law in scripture forbidding it.

That…I honestly don’t know.
This looks like one of the numerous questions that cannot now be answered because the relevant historical information has been lost. If you’re really interested in finding out, here’s one approach that might bring results. In the case of levirate marriage, which of the two brothers would legally be considered as the father of the posthumous child? Would the boy be known as, say, Saul ben Simeon (the brother who died childless) or Saul ben Joshua (the surviving brother who dutifully created a posterity for him)?

Thank you, dear @Rose321, for your flattering words! But your kindness is much greater than I deserve. I don’t know what the answer is, I’m only asking the question.
