Was Judas put on earth to betray Jesus? Or was this something he decided along the way?

What was Judas’ fate? Because he committed suicide, did he go straight to Hell? Or did he beg forgiveness before he took his last breath?

Please know that I am just asking for information, just questions I have. I have not based my questions on anything read or taught about Judas.

I believe if Judas were to ask forgiveness he would have received it.

I wonder if he wasn’t so caught up in despair that he believed he could not be forgiven. Where as Peter after denying the Lord did not get to that point where he felt he could not ask for forgiveness.

Nobody knows what Judas did in his last breaths but it hardly seems likely he would ask for forgiveness then proceed to hang himself.

Although we do not know where Judas is, in my opinion he is in Hell based on the words of Jesus. As Jesus is God and knows where all of us end up why would he say these things about Judas if he knew he would ask for forgiveness and be saved?

Matt 26:24-25

24 “The Son of Man indeed goes, as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed. It would be better for that man if he had never been born.”
25 Then Judas, his betrayer, said in reply, “Surely it is not I, Rabbi?” He answered, “You have said so.”

That’s what I have thought for a long time. Yet, if he truly believed that he could be forgiven, as Jesus taught, then he shouldn’t have hanged himself.

No he had a choice in the matter just the same as we all do…God knows our choices before we make them but never forces anyone to choose to do anything

WE don’t know his fate for sure…Christ called him son of perdition…

Depression and despair do not always lead to logical thinking. People can be so assumed with it that they are not in the right frame of mind. Committing suicide itself shows that he was not thinking logically.
 
I don’t think Judas was put on this earth to betray Jesus. Yes, it was his decision, and he was free. You know I’ve struggled with this question too. Why, if Jesus knew, with divine knowledge that Judas would betray him, did he pick him for one of the apostles? After all, if he were not so close to Jesus, he would not have been in such a perfect position to betray him right?
My thoughts?, Jesus, in His infinite, unfathomable love, perhaps destined Judas to become one of the greatest apostles to His mercy. After the betrayal, all Judas would have had to do was to turn to Jesus, who would have forgiven him. Judas would have been the living example of the mercy of God. Accepted back into the family after performing the unthinkable act of betraying God!
Judas had the choice to accept the mercy of God or to despair…The choice was his. We will not know this side of heaven what happened before he drew his last breath, I think that even in the act of hanging yourself, you have a few moments before you die? I don’t know the physiology of death by hanging.
The Church never claims he is in hell with the infallibility that She raises Saints to the Altar!
