Thoughts?

I fear this might be another one of those “Vatican behind-the-scenes political feud whatever” that has a tendency to veer towards anti-Catholic nonsense.

The Church doesn’t align itself with any political ideology. Certain aspects of Catholic teaching from what I know disagree with some tenants of liberalism, some with conservatism. If there is an ideological feud within the Church it’s between those who want doctrine to stay as it is and those who want to change it.

:twocents:

Yeah I know that. But there seems to be small dissenting groups within the Church who do want to change “doctrine”, as you and I would know.

I like Jude Law a lot. He is one of my favorite actors. I think he would be good in the role. I do not know his religious upbringing or if he professes any faith.

It sounds promising, but I do not know the people producing it and if they will make it nonsense or if it actually might portray a Pope and the Church with respect.

Well, the papacy has survived Peter O’Toole, Rex Harrison, and Anthony Quinn (Zorba the Pope!) portraying the Holy Father. It’ll survive Jude Law as well.

This is the first time I paid any attention to Jude Law. Why’d they pick him? With all the Italians involved in the production of a movie about the first Italian-American Pope, surely there’s an Italian American actor out there who could do it. What about Sylvester Stallone?

I was with you until the very last part. I can’t see Sylvester Stallone as a Pope somehow. I realize he is Catholic, but surely there are other Italian American actors. There is a great actor with the last name of Davi who might be good unless they considered him too old to play the part.
