An Italian judge ordered a 13 year old girl from Torino to abort her unborn child because her parents were opposed to the baby.

Italian legislation states that a minor is not allowed to decide whether to abort or not and the ‘decision’ falls entirely on the guardians or parents.

The shocking story was brought into light by Italian newspaper La Stampa in which the paper reports that the girl didn’t want to abort the baby but had to after the ruling. She then had to receive treatment after telling her parents she was going to attempt a suicide.

The girl got pregnant by her 15 year old boyfriend but despite this she still wanted to keep the baby.

However her parents were very angry and demanded an abortion. After the abortion the girl went into a frenzy and threatened she was going to kill herself.

“The unborn baby is still a life and I defend life whatever the situation.” Severino Poletto, Archbishop of Torino told the paper.

“Society must take of this child. I certainly oppose abortions but this case allows us to reflect on the situation. We have to take a step back and ask ourselves how this could have happened to a 13 year old girl.” he added.

Shocking. I bet Pro choice supporters who are against Parental Notifications for minors seeking abortions are nowhere to be seen in this issue for the young girl

Or how about just in general. She wasn’t given a choice. She chose to keep the child and her parents chose to have her abort the baby. How come they wouldn’t say anything about that?? Because in the end it doesn’t matter…the outcome is the same…a child was murdered so therefore their agenda was fullfilled.

Since this happened in Italy, it is a good chance that the Judge and Parents are Catholic. I hope the Bishops or the Pope come down on the people responsible if they were Catholic.

This happens everyday in this country-not a judge ordering n abortion but a parent, boyfriend or spouse forcing a woman to abort. This is what “choice” is all about.

This is an offensive answer and not altogether true.
The point of Pro Choice is just that, Choice. This is awfull, this girl CHOSE to have the baby and was forced to abort.
This goes against everything that Pro- Choicers are about.

It is very offesive that people support the slaughter of our children and then try to hide behind the word “choice” As I said before the situation descibed by the OP happens thousnads of times a day with the full support of the so-called supporters of “choice”. The only difference is it is not a judge doing the choosing

The thing that is most offensive is the fact the parents would do such a thing. Yes it is well within their legal rights to consent their child to any medical procedure because the child in question was 13 and not 18. There are many cases where children’s wishes are not carried out simply becasue she is a minor. Many people will get caught up on the abortion debate and not see that the matter of the issue isn’t the legality of abortion (because it is apparently legal in Italy) but the fact that children have NO rights in their medical care. No adult can be forced to have a medical procedure done but, children must do whatever their parents want them to.

Would it have bee any less horryfiyibg if the child had made the decision to kill her child? The child is just as dead regardless of who decides they need to be killed.

While the abortion is horrible and all.

I am more worried by the parents allowing their daughter to have unprotected sex with her boyfriend.

And the girl thinks she will be able to care of the child… With what job, and in who’s house.

It scares me the sense of reality some people have

Run across that all the time when counseling. The daughter thinks she can raise the child-the Parents push her to abort. We try to counsel adoption.

And BTW the overwhelming number of pregnant women I talk to were enaging in “protected” sex. Of course there is no such thing and socieities insistence that there is such a thing has led to more STDS, more pregnancies and more abortions.

So you are saying there are more STD’s, more pregnancies, and more abortions from “protected” sex than unprotected sex?

I am saying in my experience there is little or no difference. There is no such thing as “safe” or “protected” sex other than sex in a monogamous long term , commited relationshipSociety has done our children a huge disservice by pushing the myth of “safe” sex on them…

Do some research-since the advent of the pill in 1968 has unwanted pregnancies, abortions and STDs went up or down?

What does the pill have to do with STDs as no one says they protect from STDs

Second saying that sex with a condom creates the same amount of abortions and pregnancies as unprotected sex outside of marriage is false

Plus in 1973(when abortions came legal, not the “1968 pill” date you gave. You should know that since you work with these people) there were 615,000 abortions. In 2000 there were 857,000. Over 200,000 more BUT because of population growth there were less per person so the number of abortions have gone down, not up like you said

I assume you are not talking about the United states since we havent has as few as 850,000 abortions in this country sionce the mid 70s. You keep preaching the myth of sex sex and “us people” will continue trying to clean up the mess you have made.

that is so true --that’s why you don’t hear “pro-choicers” protesting China’s forced abortion policy

I hate Catholics like you who give all of us a bad name. You present false facts so we all look wrong.

My facts come from the Center for Disease Control. In 2000 there were 857,475 Abortions. If you say this fact is a lie… Prove It, Plus is was foolish of you to even reply since you saying that there have not been less than 850,000… I agreed! Did you not read my post??? I said 857,000. I doesn’t help to reply to things you do not read

Whats also sick if you attack me like I am the problem, like I support it. I do not, I just hate people like you who get things wrong and make us look like we don’t know what we are talking about. Listen more than you talk

I only wish I could believe your figures. The Guttmacher Institute collects data and their estimates differ markedly:1973- 744,600 dead children

1980- 1,553,900 dead children

1988- 1,590,800 dead children

1990- 1,609,000 dead children

2000- 1,312,990 dead children

2003- 1,287,000 dead children

guttmacher.org/pubs/2006/08/03/ab_incidence.pdf
This article noted the trend of fewer abortions did not hold for the poor where numbers increased. Most importantly, it must be emphasized these are only estimates.40-50% of abortions are not reported. Let’s be realistic. The Supreme Court has denied the personhood of unborn children so there is no urgency to regulate or monitor abortuaries. The state trusts the abortion providers to be honest. It isn’t too hard to imagine many abortions are never reported in what is largely a cash based business. Read the testimony of Dr. Beverly McMillan, the first to set up an abortion “clinic” in Jackson, Mississippi in 1975.
priestsforlife.org/testimony/mcmillan.htm

That’s the bottom line isn’t it? Nobody is watching: nobody cares. Underage children, clearly the victims of predatory males are routinely hauled into abortuaries and the staff turns a blind eye for profit.
