Did you know that the Catholic church rejects Mormon baptisms as valid? AND the Mormon church rejects all other baptisms as invalid? That means that the two reject each other’s authority completely. The Catholic church recognizes that some authority is spread, through the RCC, to the rest of the Christian world as long as they do certain things correctly, and since Mormonism is polythetistic and rejects the trinity, it isn’t considered a Christian church.

It sounds like this is something you should think about, a lot.
anyways so says that u have to believe in the trinity to be consider christian they believe in god, jesus, and the holy spirits that seems enough for me

i know that the Mormon church rejects all other baptisms as invalid because when i went to get baptized in the Mormon church i told them i was already baptize in the Catholic church and they told me it it was invalid because they do it wrong and they don’t have the authority from god to baptize people
Yes, exactly, and the Catholic church rejects Mormon baptisms as valid. The two churches reject each other. They each think the other does not have authority and is false. For you to belong to both is dishonest. If God is important to you, you owe it to Him to figure out what you think is closest to the truth after much study and prayer-- don’t you think?

that idk but thats a good question i should ask the Elders
No, Sigifredo, you should not ask those Mormon elders anything. You should stay away from them all together. You cannot be Mormon, and a Catholic. You are right, you have been confused by them.

Glad you are here. Maybe you can get squared away?

but it doesn’t seem right to be that god is going to condemn me for being both dont you think that the most important thing is that i believe in him and in jesus and what about the scriptures that i have u they say things about the status

but WHY do have to choose betweeen the Mormon church and the Catholic church can i just be both? i mean god never said that we have to belong to a certain church or religion i like to believe that when i died god is going to judge me by my actions and not my which religion i was
There are a lot of reasons you can’t be both. Catholicism is not a “religion”, but is the Body of Christ. One of the main problems is that Mormons don’t believe that Jesus is God, that is why they refuse to address prayers to Him.

Yes, God will judge you by your actions. At the present time, you have been drawn away from the truth unwittingly and in ignorance. Hopefully being at CAF will enlighten you.
so why does the Catholic church accepts that the orthodox church has some authority and some eastern churches are in full communion with the pope and yet they have different names
Because they have kept the core beliefs as taught by Jesus, and maintained the Apostolic succession. All agree that the Head of the Church is Christ, and that it is founded on the Apostles and Prophets. Mormonism is a religion founded on a man, and is separated from the Apostles.

You have been misled.

This is the teaching of Jesus. They believe that Jesus is not God, and I dont know about “holy spirits”.

Ziggy,

It’s simple, which do you think is true?? They aren’t both true, they both claim different priesthood authority as correct and teach very different theology. WHy are you trying to be a part of both churches anyway? THey are contradictory to each other. Yes I think God cares because if you care about Him you will think about how you worship Him and whether or not you are a monotheist or a polytheist.

ok thats seems a pretty good idea i really wish had the faith that u guys have in god and in the church and i got to the Catholic church i like it but when i go to the Mormon church and hear their testimonies that god told them that the Mormon church was the true church and the feel something. god can’t be lying to them they seem pretty sure that thats the true church and they even cry but when i see this video ccc.usccb.org\video/fishers_of_men1.wmv i feel good and i love this part 7:15 to 8:40 and specially 7:42 to 7:45 when i girl is crying sometimes i want to become a priest but I’m afraid

Well, the simple answer is… You have partly answered your own question…but beyond that… History shows that at one time the Orthodox Churches, or most of them, were as one with the Catholic Church. They encountered differences. It caused some problems. They had differences, yet, the differences they have are not such that the major amount of the “theology” is different. Most of it is the same. The difference in names is not what makes them the same nor does it make them different. Its not the name that is important…its the “theology”.

This is not the case with the Mormons and Catholics. The theologies are vastly different. They do not mesh or meet.

I do not know that much about Mormon beliefs, so I will not say more on this.

I have no problems with Mormon people as people. I have known quite a few and they were good and decent people. I served in the service with them and in combat. As people I respected the ones I knew.

I wish you Peace!

but jesus say " the father is greater then i" and the Mormons believe that is a god but he is the greater than God the father

i’m trying to be part of both churches because i like both because in the mormon church are so decent they don drink or curse or smoke or do anything like that unlike the catholics i have met they curse, drink, smoke and even cheat on their wives and than they tell its ok to have sex before marriage and that porn or masturbation its ok and they didn’t even know that the church prohibits the use of condoms and to have sex before marriage

I understand why you got pulled into the Mormon church. We all want a deeper and more authentic experience of God. Many Catholics have also not learned how to give an account for the hope that is within them.

Especially if you are called to be a priest the evil one will work hard to prey upon your fears so that you never fulfill that call. There is nothing to fear, though. Go talk to the parish priest about how you sometimes think about this, and follow his direction. There is a long period of discernment and preparation so mistakes can be prevented, and an authentic vocation can be determined. Following that will only benefit you spiritually, whether you decide to become a priest, or not.

It is very easy to get disollusioned being around persons who profane the faith into which they were baptized in this manner. It is good that you want to be around persons of purity. Perhaps you will find some in seminary?

As the title of the thread states, we know them by their fruits. Persons who behave the way you describe are living in a life of sin,and are on the road to perdition. Is there not a monastery near you that you can visit?

You’re hanging out with the wrong Catholics! Learn about the Catholic faith before you start believing in what other people say about the beliefs of the Church. For starters, go to catholic.com,the main page of Catholic Answers…look to your left in the Library section, and start reading.

As many others said in this forum, we are a Church of sinners. Our goal in the Church is to become holy so that we may be united with our Lord in eternity (the Lord, which is the Trinity).

idk if its really a call from god maybe is just a feeling and nothing else and i’m saying that i’m afraid because i dont think i have enough faith in the catholic church to be a priest mainly because i struggle a lot with some of their beliefs

no i dont think their is any near me but i dont want to go to a seminary to see good Catholics a want to be close to real catholics normal people like me and not priests but anyways i still have time to think about me being 100% catholic after all i just turn 17 a week ago

Ziggy,

I get what you are saying, but that doesn’t change the fact that the Mormon church denies the trinity and teaches polytheism. The question is, does your theology agree iwth Mormonism, or Catholicism? If it is with Mormonism, then be a Mormon but don’t be a Catholic. Does it agree with Catholicism? Then maybe you should take it as a calling from God to reform the lax moral behavior of Catholics you know (though I don’t see what problem there is with drinking as long as people aren’t getting drunk… or even smoking, how is that a moral issue?). You should follow your conscience and make your choice, but being both things at once is complete dishonesty to those around you and to God.

There is not a Catholic who has ever lived that has never struggled with their faith. This is all part and parcel of our calling to follow God. Of course you cannot have faith in the Catholic Church right now, because you have been contaminated by heresies. However, there will be plenty of time to get that fixed. You need some good catechesis, and good spiritual direction, and most especially a community that lives in purity.

i’m pretty sure god doesn’t like seeing us drinking or smoking because our body is a temple of god ,would u go to a church and drink and smoke inside?
