Judgeing Others?

I have a question and it has been bothering me for a while. The bible says “Judge Not, Lest you be Judge.” “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone”. But, it also says “Judge with Righteous Judgement.”

I have noted that whenever someone is doing/has done/will do something bad they will quote the first two and someone who is condemning quotes the later. Which completely confussing me because these seem to me to be two totally contratdictory things from the bible which is enerrent (so contradictory things can’t happen). Could someone give me a clearer picture of this (other related scriptures and ECF) and help me understand, are we supposed to Judge or are we not supposed to judge, or judge to a certain degree? Judging with righteous judgement is discerning the good or evil of a choice according to the laws that God has already given us.

“Judge not lest ye be Judged” is refering to the condemning of another person. Which we have no right to do.
 
Obviously, I was just kidding, but I’d like to take a stab at your question:

I think it’s not contradictory at all. Judging others with a vengeful heart is inappropriate. We should understand that we are all sinners and are all God’s children.

However, using your best judgment to assist others is appropriate. If you a knowledgable about a topic and are able to convey that in a positive way, then it is completely appropriate. It’s all in your intentions and the reality of that situation.

I think the first quotes deal with divining people’s motives and the second with evaluating their actions. We cannot tell what somebody’s motive is for some action, but we can certainly tell whether an action has positive or negative consequences.

That’s right.

We are not to judge a person subjectively, but we are to make objective judgments.

For example, let’s say that your next door neighbor killed someone and is sentenced to jail. You must affirm that his actions were very bad and evil; but you are not allowed to subjectively judge him by saying, for example, that he is an evil person for what he did. He may indeed be an evil person, but we are not allowed to make that judgment. God alone judges subjectively.
 
Hi Montie Claunch, scripture tells me that the standard I use to judge others will be turned around and used to judge myself. So, I tend to be forgivining when judging others.
 
True Christian charity demands fraternal correction. That is the judgement of an act or behavior. Catholics are to try to help the sinner see the error in a loving manner. We are not to just look the other way. We are to be interested in anothers salvation.

We can never ever judge whether they will attain eternal life. Only God can do that.
