Judging thoughts grave matter

hi ppl i am having a dilemma where i have had a couple of judging thoughts of which a person would walk past me or would be in the same room and i would get such a thought wether they are going to hell or heaven. on one occasion i quicky prayed to the lord for help but on another i didn’t and did not get rid of the thought quick enough.

would this be a grave matter and mortal.

i took holy commouin on christmas eve but this one thing is bugging me. i fight with thoughts all the time whether i have consented or not. what do ppl think about this situation.

It sounds like you’re struggling with scrupulosity and OCD.

I really don’t think this is grave matter, even if you deliberately looked at a person and deliberately thought to yourself they are going to hell (or heaven), it just doesn’t sound like grave matter.

But this isn’t even what you did, you had some thoughts briefly pop into your mind as what sounds like the result of OCD.

As someone who struggled with these issues in the past, I know that it’s temporarily helpful to ask these sorts of questions, but in the long run you’re going to run into these types of situations over and over. The better solution is to address the core issue of the OCD behind these concerns.

thanks for help esp at this hour over here in australia its nearly 11:30pm.

i just stuggle so much sometimes. i want to be good and alot of the time i feel that i am not good enough with all the things i do and even think and alot of the time i can not even make a quick desion with out working out all the pro’s and con’s esp the con’s

i know my reason for doing this. which is i really do not want to commit another mortal sin for the rest of my earth life. the fact of not being in the grace of GOD scares me and i do not want to take holy communion unweathy. those are the top 3

Passing thoughts are not mortal sins. Even if you consented to thinking something foolish, such as that one person was going to Heaven and another to Hell, it is not a grave matter.

A sin can be a mortal sin, due to grave matter in any of the three fonts of morality. If any one font makes an act a mortal sin, the other fonts cannot reduce the sin to less than an objective mortal sin.

1. intention

Any intention entirely incompatible with love of God and neighbor is grave matter.

Examples: malice, hatred, a desire to do serious harm to an innocent person, blasphemy, sacrilege; also, sins of omission, such as the lack of any concern for the welfare of your neighbor, the lack of any intention to worship God.

1. moral object

If an intentionally chosen act is inherently directed at an end (called the moral object) that is contrary to love of God and neighbor, then the act is intrinsically evil. When that end is entirely incompatible with love of God and neighbor, then the act is gravely immoral.

Examples: contraception, abortion, murder, lying in a serious matter, theft of a large sum of money, or theft of any sum or item, the loss of which would do grave harm.

The morality of the circumstances of an act is based on the total moral weight of the good and bad consequences. If the bad consequences outweigh the good, then the act is a sin; if the bad consequences greatly outweigh the good, such that grave harm is done without any greater good, then the act is gravely immoral.
