What must a person do to be saved? This is a question that I have been looking into lately. Please use Bible quotations, Councils, Docrtrine, Dogma, Saint quotes, etc.

When we die what will we be judged on, specifically? Is it how charitable we are, how much faith we have (and works also), or about when Jesus spoke about separating the sheep and goats because the sheep were charitable to others, thence Jesus also?

Matt 7:21

Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.

Hebrews 10:

26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.

29 How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?

36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.

James 1:

26 Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. 27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

rev 14:

13 Then I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.”

“Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.”

Though there is many other scripture to support, or maybe better said expresses this, but this is the standard that most go by, and refer to when showing what it is that must happen that is said directly by Jesus Himself, what is required for Salvation.

The Gospel according to John:3:
1: There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
2: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
3: Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4: Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?
5: Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6: That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

As far as works, Paul says it plainly here:
1Cor:3:13: Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.
14: If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
15: If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

thanks for the CCC link. i enjoyed re-reading it. everything in the other posts and…Acts 2

37 Hearing this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, ‘What are we to do, brothers?’
38 ‘You must repent,’ Peter answered, ‘and every one of you must be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
39 The promise that was made is for you and your children, and for all those who are far away, for all those whom the Lord our God is calling to himself.’
40 He spoke to them for a long time using many other arguments, and he urged them, ‘Save yourselves from this perverse generation.’
41 They accepted what he said and were baptised. That very day about three thousand were added to their number.
