Let’s get right down to it. 😃

Judgment!!!

Who, what, where, when, why, and how, and how many.

After all we all want to go to heaven someday right?

I would like to hear what people think.

Please explain your answer.

Let’s go to the CCC:

I. THE PARTICULAR JUDGMENT

…1022 Each man receives his eternal retribution in his immortal soul at the very moment of his death, in a particular judgment that refers his life to Christ: either entrance into the blessedness of heaven-through a purification594 or immediately,595 – or immediate and everlasting damnation.

V. THE LAST JUDGMENT

…1040 The Last Judgment will come when Christ returns in glory. Only the Father knows the day and the hour; only he determines the moment of its coming. Then through his Son Jesus Christ he will pronounce the final word on all history. We shall know the ultimate meaning of the whole work of creation and of the entire economy of salvation and understand the marvelous ways by which his Providence led everything towards its final end. The Last Judgment will reveal that God’s justice triumphs over all the injustices committed by his creatures and that God’s love is stronger than death.628

1041 The message of the Last Judgment calls men to conversion while God is still giving them "the acceptable time, . . . the day of salvation."629 It inspires a holy fear of God and commits them to the justice of the Kingdom of God. It proclaims the “blessed hope” of the Lord’s return, when he will come "to be glorified in his saints, and to be marveled at in all who have believed."630

Personally, I do not believe I have enough insight into what’s going on with other people to determine whether or not their acts actually meet the three requirements for mortal sin.

Even when the issue is a grave matter, and they clearly know what the Church teaches, there could be some defect of consent that mitigates their culpability. I think Charity compels us to assume (or at least to hope) that there is.

I figure that when I get all my sinfulness in order and achieve perfection, then I will have the time, and be qualified to go around correcting others.

Additionally, in my experience, I’ve never seen anyone who was engaged in what looks like sinful behavior change because someone else got all stern and self-righteous on them. The times I’ve seen behavior change it was because of low-key, unobtrusive, personal example.

Wasn’t it St. Francis who said “Preach the gospel constantly. Use words if necessary”?

What are these judgments based on? Faith? Works? Both? What about Baptism? Does it play a part? What about those who lived and died never exposed to Christianity? Never baptized or had faith in Jesus? How does Jesus dying once and for ALL play into it?

So can a pagan who never was exposed to Christ go to heaven? What about those who were exposed to a self-righteous Christian and turn their backs on Christianity because of it? Do they still have a chance of salvation?

I suppose you are kindof asking if there is an afterlife, a paradise, and if so, - how do you get there. And Christianity simply tells you of the only route it knows about to get to heaven. One does with that information what one will.

Is the last judgment in scripture the lowest possible denominator for judgment for humanity? Is it salvation by works? What about the unborn who die without faith, works, or baptism? (Died not just by abortion but even by miscarriage)

Echelons above my paygrade!

I have a full plate getting myself into Heaven, without worrying about that sort of thing.

I will say this, I trust God to sort all this stuff out.

It reminds me of a story about a French General, who happened to be a devoted Catholic in the days when the French Republic was notably anti-clerical. This General was asked by the Minister of Defense which other French officers this general saw at Mass. The General replied, “I sit at the front, and focus on praying, so I don’t notice who else is there.”

~sniffin~ do I smell bait???
Not at all. I am curious. I just want to know what people think. I have never heard anyone answer these questions in full. It is like there is a hole in Christianity when it comes to these questions. No real answers.

So what do you think?
I think that nobody knows.

Carefully read:
We were only told of one way, so we can only say, honestly, that we only know of one way there.

Whether there are protestants, pagans, dissapointed dissident Catholics etc., etc., in heaven I don’t know. A man came and said ‘Here is the way to heaven’; if you’re asking me about what happens to people on alternative routes, I’ll say honestly, I don’t know; we were only told of this one way there.

A priest told me once that Christ paid for salvation with his life, and so salvation is his to do with as he pleases. I guess that means we will never know until the very end, but I was wondering if anyone has anything better to say than that. Sorry if I put anyone on the spot.

To who’s definition of “full”-ness?
It is like there is a hole in Christianity when it comes to these questions. No real answers.
This seems subjective : “hole in Christianity”.
So you are a humble atheist lurker …looking for???

Sorry if I have offended you. I am just looking for answers. Hole was the wrong word. Sorry, I should have said no answers that we know of.

It’s hard to answer such an expansive question as this in the confines of a 6,000 character thread post. There have been many, many books written on the subject over the years, if you’re interested. There’s a whole branch of theology called eschatology that focuses on the four last things: Death, Judgment, Heaven, & Hell. The information is out there for you to find.

I will look into it. Thanks.

🙂

P.S. I thought my questions were very good questions, and I believe I am not the only one who has ever asked them. Sorry If I offended anyone. I mean no offence.
