Tuesday of the Sixteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Reading 1
Mi 7:14-15, 18-20
Shepherd your people with your staff,
the flock of your inheritance,
That dwells apart in a woodland,
in the midst of Carmel.
Let them feed in Bashan and Gilead,
as in the days of old;
As in the days when you came from the land of Egypt,
show us wonderful signs.
Who is there like you, the God who removes guilt
and pardons sin for the remnant of his inheritance;
Who does not persist in anger forever,
but delights rather in clemency,
And will again have compassion on us,
treading underfoot our guilt?
You will cast into the depths of the sea
all our sins;
You will show faithfulness to Jacob,
and grace to Abraham,
As you have sworn to our fathers
from days of old.

Lord, show us your mercy and love.
You have favored, O LORD, your land;
you have brought back the captives of Jacob.

Restore us, O God our savior,
and abandon your displeasure against us.
Will you be ever angry with us,
prolonging your anger to all generations?

Mt 12:46-50Gospel
While Jesus was speaking to the crowds,
his mother and his brothers appeared outside,
wishing to speak with him.
Someone told him, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside,
asking to speak with you.”
But he said in reply to the one who told him,
“Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?”
And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said,
"Here are my mother and my brothers.
For whoever does the will of my heavenly Father
is my brother, and sister, and mother."

Who is like God who removes our guilt and “pardons sins for the remnant”… Only God KNOWS our sin. The world doesn’t have a clue. Often people are thought of as “good”… but are they good enough to get to Heaven. According to Jesus there are few who find the narrow way to Heaven. The older i get the more i see the truth of this. I used to think most people went to Heaven… But i was very naive back then & had not been through all the weird stuff i later went through… God is forgiving but he hates sin. Those who practice sin are attached to it. It becomes part of who they are. And when they die, if they have not detached from it through Jesus Christ… it goes with them… and no sin goes into Heaven…
It may sound depressing, but too many people think the opposite… that just about everyone goes to Heaven… Satan is the father of all lies… This is probably his greatest trick… telling us that God is love & would “send no one to Hell”… God being love has little to do with it. God, in his great love has done all He can do. He sent Jesus to die a horrible death for us. And i believe that we have to go through our own similar crosses… yet most people run from suffering. As Fr. Carapi once said “IF you run from the Cross, you run from love…[God is love]” If you run from God you run from Heaven… If you run from Heaven… guess where you end up…
Anyway, in the gospel JEsus says that all who do the will of the Father are his brother, sister… .etc…
and the will of the Father is given to us through JEsus and His Church (Scripture/tradition)…
not that just being in His Church is going to work… but anyhow… ***
