Im supposed to see this tomorrow night…Ive seen the trailer, looks pretty good, they said on CBS this morning, this movie raked in the most money over the weekend than ANY OTHER movie in history!! That is pretty significant, especially when its number 4 in the series.

I always liked the other Jurassic Park movies, thought they did a great job on the dinosaurs, they really do look realistic when in the same shot as the actors. I know its all green screens and CGI, but still, pretty impressive to me.

Year ago, I had heard another writer wanted to do another JP, and the story line was going to be something along the lines of the military weaponizing the Velociraptors, and maybe even having them learning speech LOL, strange that in Jurassic world, there is a ‘sub-plot’ about trying to weaponize dinosaurs, but kinda predictive they went along the lines of ‘genetically modifying’ the most deadly dinos to make one super predator, leave it to mankind to go that route! LOL

Regarding dinosaurs themselves, Ive always been fascinated by them, I think it shows how creative our God is…I mean, think about it, if we didnt have their bones left behind, would anyone even believe such creatures actually roamed the earth, it is just so bizarre, plus that they were around for sooooo long, millions of years? I highly doubt man will reach 1 million years!

Anyone else seen it or planning to?

I caught it at a matinee earlier today, and thought it was pretty good! The special effects were certainly upped more than a few notches. 👍 On a related note, it was also quite a bit more violent IMO than the previous ones, although not gratuitous, perhaps not wise for younger kids.

Hopefully we will make it to the weekend viewing! I think it is quite the movie based on reviews!👍

I’m going to see it with my friend on Thursday. I have the other JP movies on DVD now and I have always loved them. They are the reason I collect rocks and minerals now and that includes fossils.

I saw it last Friday, now I feel guilty for contributing to its huge success.
It was a fun movie, but surely there have been better movies that should have had a greater impact!
Anyway, parts were kind of silly, like the heroine traipsing all over the woods and running from ferocious dinos in her high heels. I guess there are women who can do that but not me.

The dinos were cool, and I even found myself rooting for the velociraptors. That was unexpected – they had a bond with the dino whisperer – hero Owen – and had apparently imprinted on him like birds will do – they thought he was their mother/alpha leader. So we find ourselves on the side of the raptors, to some extent. I liked that part, it gave them character.

the movie pointed out that just because we can do something, doesn’t mean we should. The same moral as Frankenstein, and one that our scientists are ignoring as we speak: cloning, IVF, human/animal hybrids. Maybe scientists don’t get to the movies much.

The first ones came out when I was rather young and even if they were tamer just the ads gave me nightmares. 😊 I actually recently saw the first one and was able to enjoy it, though I was still closing my eyes at parts.

Maybe it will take another 20 years for me to be able to handle this one! 😛

As someone who saw the previous ones in the theatre (and i still remember how my dad came home from work in 1993 not long after the first one opened and said “let’s go!” And we got there in time, but so late we had to sit up front and i froze in my shorts cause the AC vent was above me…) i am probably skipping this one…mostly because…

Raptors are lethal at eight months old… - Robert Muldoon (who ironiically was attacked and killed by two raptors)

I still to this day can’t watch any of the movies w/o covering my eyes during certain scenes…just watched the original sunday night and finished monday morning…still had to fast forward the dvd a little…but ironically…i wore out my vhs tape from watching it so much back in the 1990s…

My husband and I saw it last Friday. It was a fun and exciting movie, and it was cool to see how a fully operational dinosaur park would look like. I also appreciated the shout-outs to the original Jurassic Park. Although I liked the raptors, my favourite dino was the gigantic mosasaurus. 😃

I just wish there hadn’t been so much blatant product placement in the movie. At times, it seemed more like a Mercedes commercial with dinosaurs.

Saw it last night with my husband. He loves jump, scream and laugh movies and that was a great one. To clarify, the laughter is about the jumping and screaming. At one point he jumped so hard I thought he was having a seizure! At least this time he didn’t rip the arm off the chair as he did 20 years ago at the first movie–the football player behind us jumped so hard he broke thru the seat on his chair. We agreed that the first one was scarier. But maybe that is because we’ve become accustomed to dinosaurs chasing children.

Unfortunately, we were the only ones in the theater who were screaming and laughing out loud. I do hope we didn’t annoy anyone too much but it seems as though there are certain audiences prone to responding out loud and those that are not and it is hard to know before the movie starts which one we will land in. (I don’t know how the other people could not scream when thing jump out, and having screamed when you knew going in that it was that kind of show, how could they not laugh?)

Yes!, I HATE this in modern movies, it was much better when they had to hide brand names or use fake names.

Seen it. Loved it. I like a little native advertising. It gives a sense of realism to see a Margueriteville restaurant at a resort park. I like the mix of humor and action. I am also now into the Lego video game based on the movie.

You mean like the Ford Explorers and the Jeeps in the original 😃

😛 Lol, that is true!! Ford Explorers and Jeeps were everywhere in the original, though I don’t recall it ever looking like a commercial per se. In this new movie, they included a few gratuitous panning shots of a shiny, new-looking Mercedes. There may well have been similar camera angles in Jurassic Park with the Jeeps, though I’d have to see it again to compare. I guess I just noticed it more in this one.

I don’t mind product placement in cases where it makes sense. There were also noticeable product placements for Starbucks and Coca Cola, but it makes sense that you would have those brands in a commercialised resort like Jurassic World. I think it was more just the way the camera openly admired the shiny Mercedes vehicles that made it more noticeable.

Yea, but they never directly showed or mentioned the actual brand names, in fact, if I remember correctly, as I watched the original a week ago, Im pretty sure they refer to the ford explorers as ‘jeeps’ in one scene…whereas nowadays, they would make it a point to have the actors say ‘lets run to the Ford explorers’ instead of just saying, lets run to the car’, like normal people would say.

Ive never understood why for soooo long major brands did not want their brand names/ logos to be mentioned in movies or shows, they would make them cover the name or use a fake name, but nowadays, they actually prefer their brand names to be in as many scenes as possible, what happened to change this recently I wonder? I hope this trend doesnt last.

It’s called “product placement,” and companies (like Ford, Jeep, and now Mercedes) pay big bucks to get their products featured prominently in motion pictures.

It’s been going on for a long time. The movie Wayne’s World (not sure if 1 or 2) makes fun of product placement and that movie came out more than 20 years ago. At the time, I didn’t get the joke because I hadn’t really noticed such things. Ever since, I notice it a lot more easily.

I’m looking forward to seeing this movie. Though, as with most all movies, I’ll be seeing it when it comes out on DVD. So maybe around Christmas time I can come back to this thread and comment. 😛

The headgates used to hold the raptors is by Priefort, a ranch supply company. I thought it was hysterically funny that the FFA president leaned over and pointed out the Priefort logo in the scene with the raptors being held in the chutes.

I can see the ad now, “If a Priefort can hold a raptor, it can hold your bull.”

Not going on that long, as I clearly remember when most movies and TV shows had to cover the brand names or use fakes…it is completely different today, I think it changed back in the early 90s.

Strange that for so long, they didnt want their brands to be seen, Im supposed to believe this was the norm, then all the sudden it changed, and now nearly every company would like their brands seen as often as possible, as many places as possible? LOL Why did it take them so long to recognize this I wonder? Plus, Id love to know what demographic Mercedes Benz is trying to appeal to , by showing their brands in a movie about dinosaurs?! LOL Most people anxious to see this movie, I doubt can afford one, or would even want one.

Personally, I would rather see fake brand names/ logos in movies and shows, too many commercials to contend with now, nice to have at least something they arent using for advertising…but I guess those are the times, all about GREED today!

I like this change. It brings a better sense of realism. Fake logos maintain the lack of reality.
