We Catholics are under a continuous bombardment of negativism from many sources. How many times have you heard from the pulpit a Catholic priest deliberately attacking a non-Catholic Church? I do not recall one single case in which this has happened. Yet others take great pleasure in attacking our Catholic Church, and they will do it from the pulpit. It amazes me how some non-Catholic sects seem to spend a significant percentage of their time in attacking our Church, instead of preaching to their own followers, of “love thy neighbor” as taught by the Word of GOD in Holy Scripture. God bless you all. and your preachers.

In all my years as a Roman Catholic I can think of only one instance where anyone ever said anything negative about my faith, and that was not direct, but was based on knowing I was Catholic and asking me a question that expressed some negativity with Catholic belief.

I don’t think the RCC is under attack “from many sources.” I do think that a small minority of ultra conservative Catholics feel so, but it largely because of their social views being attacked rather than the Mother Church. You simply now find yourself in the same boat with the bible belt Christians who have always been targeted with their rigid fundamentalist views and their desire to impose them on everyone else. Ironically, it is they who do in fact preach against the unholy Catholic church.

What I am amazed at is the obsession of the minority Conservatives with being attacked. It is the source of why this site was started as I understand it, and frankly is rather foreign to the Catholic upbringing I had, namely that as Roman Catholics we were above this sort of thing.

But you can be proud, because at least here, the Catholic desire to bash virtually every other Protestant denomination, as well as all non-Christian faiths is most alive and well. One need but peruse the thread titles to see this. And of course, a fair amount of bashing one’s own who don’t tow the official line. So there is a great deal of reciprocity in the bashing sphere to go around me thinks.

Bill why do you go to Catholic sites and cut and paste?
Brain, Do you have a problem with what I post,if you do just do not read what I post. I do not think you have to read all post, and it will not make me mad. Have a great day and may Our Lord bless you

Bill,
How many times have you personally witnessed this?
I have never heard a Lutheran pastor bash the Catholic Church from the pulpit, not that that means it hasn’t happened. And that is my point. Bill, there are a number from all groups who bash those of a different view point. It is unchristian to do so.
It is not unchristian, however, to point out differences in beliefs. This can and should be done with charity and Christian love.
The Holy Spirit has blessed the Catholic Church with His love and Grace. Why should what anyone else says matter?

Thankfully, I have never heard a UM pastor berate Catholicism. If I did, I would certainly hold them accountable for their actions. Undermining the ministry of others is a chargeable offense which can lead to the defrocking of a UM pastor.

Don’t pigeonhole all Protestants by the actions of a few idiots.

I have never set feet in a Lutheran church so I did not hear it there but I have been to many a Baptsist church and a few NON-denomination churchs and a few other and I have heard it many, many times, sorry but it is a fact,Jimmy Bakker,Jimmy SWaggart, Jim Hagg. or what his name is Leroy Jenkins, Don stwaart and the list just goes on both on TV and off TV.and my point is I have never heard a Cathloic Priest do any bashing of another Chruch, Thanks for your repely and have a great day.

Then you were fortunate.
I don’t think the RCC is under attack “from many sources.”
I’d have to disagree with you there. The fact is that depending upon where you live and what circles you move in it varies.

In online interactions, both on Catholic and n-C fora I have found my fair share and then some I think.
I do think that a small minority of ultra conservative Catholics feel so, but it largely because of their social views being attacked rather than the Mother Church.
I’ll have to disagree with you here as well because probably 99% of the interactions I have had have been about Catholic doctrine.
You simply now find yourself in the same boat with the bible belt Christians who have always been targeted with their rigid fundamentalist views and their desire to impose them on everyone else.
Again I disagree. I live in the deep South “Bible Belt” and the Catholics that I know and attend Mass with are nothing like the scenario that you describe.
Ironically, it is they who do in fact preach against the unholy Catholic church.
Are you trying to be cute here? My faith is not 'unholy" by any means.

I’m a long way from anything that I would class as “minority Conservative” and I don’t know where you get your information about CAF but it might help if you had a careful look at the CAF Statement of Purpose.

“Above this sort of thing”? What “thing”? Apologetics has been around as long as Christianity, and ever more so in the last 500 years. 🤷

 If you say so. Most of it looks like fairly healthy discussion and debate to me, but it also appears that you are not immune to bashing others as well.

Welcome to CAF! 👍

This is so true “I’d have to disagree with you there. The fact is that depending upon where you live and what circles you move in it varies.”

I do live in the Bapstist belt,
THANKS for your answer

Those guys don’t like us very much either. 😃

I think Spiritmeadow was quoting in a general way:
You simply now find yourself in the same boat with the bible belt Christians who have always been targeted with their rigid fundamentalist views and their desire to impose them on everyone else. Ironically, it is they who do in fact preach against the unholy Catholic church.
It would have been clearer had he put quotes around the word “unholy”. From what I’ve read, I don’t think that is the personal sentiment of Spiritmeadow, but the sentiments of those he was aluding to.

You are correct, and the post points up just how quick some are to assume attack where obviously none is meant.

I assumed nothing. I asked for clarification. Maybe you would have been better served by being more concise and less sarcastic (if that was your intent) in your post. I can’t read minds on my best days and in written posts on the forums it is all the more difficult without any better clues than I had there.
Thanks anyway…🤷

I’ve never heard a priest bash another religion, much less a Christian denomination.

I did hear a Methodist minister make a snide comment about the Catholic Eucharistic (that only Catholics can recieve) just before distributing communion, though. No reverence for the Eucharist in her own church even.

I don’t consider myself an “ultra conservative Catholic”, and yet I do see that many people hate the CC. But if your definition of “ultra conservative Catholic” includes “those C’s who think that many people hate the CC”, then I guess I can’t convince you that I’m not an ultra conservative (anything).

This isn’t the first post you’ve made this claim in. Where do you get this information–that only ultra conservative Catholics see that many others hate the CC?

How are you defining ultra conservative Catholic?

If you’re taking posts from another site, you’re supposed to site your source. (Or are you copying your own posts from another site?)

I did, but not being a Methodist, didn’t know that it was something she could be defrocked for. There was no reaction to the comment from the congregation, and I stayed for coffe an’. This didn’t seem to be an unusual thing. At least the congregation wasn’t opposed to what had happened–not openly, anyway. Not so much so that their doughnuts didn’t go down easily, anway. 😉 Every one was cheery after recieving communion from someone who had made that comment with the host in her hands.

We Catholics are under a continuous bombardment of negativism from many sources.

Welcome to real life 🙂

Others could say exactly the same: except that one source of the bombardment they undergo is - Catholicism 🙂
How many times have you heard from the pulpit a Catholic priest deliberately attacking a non-Catholic Church?

The Pope called them “defective” - that counts as an attack. It’s no answer to say (for instance) that he was saying what had to be said; that may be so, but they could say that about what they say about us. And they would be right to do make that defence of their comments. When as occasionally happens, we are said not to be a true church, that is no more than the Pope has said about them. So there is no excuse for complaining - if we want to be treated well, we should others well first. Someone has to quit being a berk, & it might as well be us - otherwise we are going to be caught in the churchly equivalent of arms limitation talks, in which neither party is prepared to be the first to concede anything.

I do not recall one single case in which this has happened.

Try reading more. 🙂

POI - it isn’t “our” Church. The NT Church is always God’s - are you implying the CC is not that Church 🙂 ?

Absolutely spot on!! 👍 Although, I -]could/-] should say we need to stop being jerks first - it might as well be us. And not just in the pulpit - on apologetics as well. Here, at CAF, and at brand X Protestant forum. I would contend that our respective clergy have more respect for each other, and show more Christian love and charity toward each other, than we the laity.

Well said, GofG, as usual.
