Hi all,
I just dropped in because I have been reading a great deal of material on LDS and it’s precepts and history. I expected respectful, charitable conversation between LDS and Catholics regarding the teachings of each group. I am a little saddened by what I find…please (directed especially at my Catholic brethren) be charitable in your responses. Slander and disrespect not only weaken our arguments through distrust, but also do little to show our love of God.
God bless,
k

You are of course correct. We should do a better job of maintaining a christlike tone in all of our communications.

K,

I agree that the tone in this forum has been quite negative lately. This was not the case a few months ago and I suspect things will return to normal again in time. Some Catholics here come off as aggressive, self righteous and even mean spirited in their attempt to defend the Church. If they stick around they will learn that every method of interfaith dialogue that doesn’t include love and humility is counter productive. Your suggestions are right on the money and we would all do well to heed them.

Tmaque is right, these forums started out to be a very cordial exchange of thoughts, and then some new people came in with not so kind expressions of their feelings about LDS and things deteriorated from there. Some of us still struggle to keep it friendly, but others are not interested in anything but demeaning the LDS beliefs, it makes me want to strike back and I have, so it just goes down hill from there, with apologies from those who care.
Many of the original posters have dropped off because of this. Some have emailed me privately to express their concern and to say they would not be posting until the angry posters are gone.

It is too bad, but I learned a lot in the past year that I have been involved, and also gotten answers for my Catholic husband that I originally came to find, now I am wasting too much time in a passtime that does not offer any more enlightenment to me.

With the new posters it is a matter of repeating everything over again, and I think every topic has been covered as thoroughly as it can possible covered here. The new posters have only to read back till they find the subject they want to read about, it is all there over and over again. 🙂 BJ

It really is too bad. I am a newcomer, but I had to avoid this particular forum for a bit because of some of the postings.

Perhaps I am one who has angered someone here. If so, I apologize. That was not my intent, since I don’t feel disrespect toward those who are sincerely and lovingly seeking to do God’s will. I place high value on honesty and sincerity.

While I am a former Mormon and a former resident of Utah, I don’t hold anger or hatred toward them. I still have family and friends who are Mormons, and my mother-in-law was, I think, a very godly woman. I still have fond feelings for Spencer W. Kimball, whom I remember as a kind and reverent man. It does no good to assault the integrity of honest people. If open and sincere dialog cannot be attained, then best to just stay silent.

Though I won’t deny the truth of what I have personally experienced, some have made it a point of honor to demean others with an utter lack of Christian charity, and some have been downright hateful. Therefore, perhaps it’s best for me to avoid speaking at all, and avoid providing fuel for the fires.

Yes, I’ve been avoiding posting here for awhile hoping things would get better. I’m sure it will.
