Just Another Confession Thread - No Penance

You bring up something important here. Over some time i have been to different priests for confession. It did help me to improve, but i realize sticking to one confessor is the best thing to do (when and if possible) as he knows you and can help you overcome short or like you said long time issues (i got one of them).

The penance involved reading something specific. I thought it was good.

I don’t have the desire to have face to face confessions – unless I have a spiritual director who is also my confessor.

I understand that. My last penance involved reading, too! It’s the first time I’ve gotten that from my confessor. It was very appropriate to what I confessed.

Thanks. I started with one confessor on the advice of someone on these forums a few years ago. Someone posted about the level of trust you should have of your confessor, and I thought…well, of course, that makes perfect sense. Immediately, too, I knew what priest that was for me.

It has made a great deal of difference. Too bad I don’t remember who that person was so I could thank them.

I am fortunate to have a wonderful spiritual director/confessor who knows me well, too well sometimes!

I make it a point to make a “general confession” right before Advent starts.
My penance this time was to spend an extra half an hour in prayer everyday during Advent,
as a way to “look deeper” at some things that are going on in my life right now.

He called it a “spiritual workout”!

It has proven to be one of the most difficult spiritual practices I have ever undertaken.
It has not been easy, and often very painful,
yet the graces I have received have more than made up for it!! :getholy:

Praying that you both find spiritual directors that will help you as much as mine has helped me!!

That is a spiritual workout! Now that’s the kind of spiritual director I need!
