I haven’t been on here in a while. I just want to say that I think the world of relationships and families is in a sad state these days. Sometimes I think of all the kids in the world that must be so affected by all the breakups.
I am separated from my wife for about 2 years now. We have two kids under the age of ten. The hardest thing has been that recently her boyfriend has moved in part time and is spending a lot of time with my kids. They are changing as a result. That is hard to watch. As I am loosing the things that were dearest to me in this world I have tried to develop my spirit more. I guess that is what God wants and he has put some remarkable teachers in my path since this all happened. If not for that I don’t think I would have survived it. I hope He gives me the strength to continue.

Sean I’m sad about your sorrow and the painful concerns for your children, and for your losses, which take so much courage to bear;
and the same for many parents.
I’ll keep you and your children in my prayers.
May God hear your prayers.

Praying for you and your children, Sean. May God give you the strength and guidance you need and may your children realize how much they mean to you.God bless!!

I’m so sorry you and your children are going through this. Have you considered hiring and attorney and having the court rule that she cannot have a man spend the night when your children are present?

I am terribly sorry, it must be horrible to watch a grow man move into your kids home. The road ahead of you is long (not going to sugar coat anything), but one day when your kids are older, they will see the good example you set if you keep to your Catholic values

I agree with you so much and it is all so sad. I am so sorry that yet another family has to go through this, you and your kids. I have seen this happen to two of my sisters and yes the children change. It is so sad. I can empathize with you and my prayers are with you. As another poster said, it is going to get more difficult for you. It is not easy seeing this man with your ex-wife and your children. It is just a difficult situation, but please turn to Jesus for support and courage and don’t give up the hope of this strength and as some one else, be an example of a good Catholic father to your children. That is about all you can do at this time. Most of all pray for your children. Don’t stop praying for your children and ask the saints to pray for your children. With me, I picked a particular saint for each of my nieces and nephew that are suffering and ask the saint to pray for them in case I should forget. I aslo ask their own guardian angel to always pray for them as well so that they will become good Catholic children, teenagers and adults. Pray, pray and pray some more. Actions speak louder than words so be a good example to your kids. One of my sisters was so negative towards her ex-husband’s girlfriend that he married later and it was not a good example for the kids. The kids recented her for it, but the kids didn’t like the wife their dad picked anyway because she was so abusive to them, so it worked out for my sister, but unfortunately the kids suffered mental and verbal abuse from this woman and their dad because she brought out the worse in him.

Just hang in and hope and pray that God has everything in control. You have my prayers.:gopray2:

Thanks for all the nice replies. To answer about hiring a lawyer to have guys spending the night. No I wouldn’t consider that. Although we don’t have a divorce only a mediated non-legally binding agreement and it would probably be possible with a battle. She is still my wife although not in her eyes. I’ve been over it in my head constantly the only thing to do is let go, any other route and the kids will suffer more still.

I would still consult with a lawyer - children are most often abused by the boyfriend of their mother. You don’t know what kind of danger your children might be in. Don’t get too sacrificial or passive.

Praying for you.

Any man who would move in with a married woman is not a good model for your kids. Don’t be afraid to fight for your kids. If you don’t fight for them, no one else will. And even if nothing substantial changes, your kids will benefit from seeing their dad standing up for what is right.

I think you should reconsider and think about hiring a lawyer. Let me give you some reasons why and what I have seen personally happen to my sister and a friend. In my sister’s case, the children were abused from the start by the girlfriend. She was mean and degrading to them. My sister’s lawyer petitioned the court for parenting class for my sister’s husband, but his lawyers were better and he got out of it. He married this woman just one week about his divorce papers were signed. Things got worse for the kids and my sister had to try to get guardian ad lidem for the kids, but again his lawyers were better. Nothing was done. The kids were beginning to show signs of the stress physically and emotionally, so my sister took them to a psychologist so that they can deal with the divorce and the immediate marriage of their dad and the abuse. The psychologist started to see things and called child services many times and again nothing was done, but only because the kids dad and the wife were both cops. CPS believed the cops versus the kids and the marks on the kids and there significant weight loss when with their dad for more than two weeks. In the end, the stepmom sexually abused the little boy, my nephew, but she pointed a gun to him and told him not to tell his dad or anyone else, so he kept quiet until after his dad divorced her. Both children are in counseling and will be needing counseling for a long time. Every book you reads tells people not to get the children involved with another person while they are separated or recently divorced, but some people don’t listen and are selfish. They put their desires and needs above their childrens. So yes, please get a lawyer and look out for your children’s best interest. Your children don’t need to know about it and should not know what you and your wife do in and out of court or mediation. That is what my sister’s ex use to do is report everything to the kids and this stressed them out so much and than he would tell the judge that my sister and our family were the one telling the kids adult issues. It was just evil what he did.

In another case of a friend, his wife told him that she was taking the kids to visit her mother in another state. When she got there she called him and said she will not be returning and she will keep the kids with her. We all told him to get a lawyer and he had very right to have his kids back to where he lived, but he thought if he just played into her wishes, she would not ask for a divorce. He ended up moving to the state where she was with the kids but she wiped out his bank account because he left it open for her to withdraw money after she left despite all his siblings and friends telling him to close the account and give her child support. She took thousands and now he is divorce, which he did not want and does not have much money. It is sad. His daughters don’t like him because their mother has poison their minds about their dads, but his sons love him so much. If he would have looked out for his interest and the kid’s interest in the beginning, maybe the whole mess he is in now could be better. In another words, you can’t be too nice hoping she will return to you.

Most of all pray for her. She is living in adultery and needs prayers and your children are seeing this bad example. You don’t know this man she is with and what kind of life he had before meeting your wife. Protect your kids!

Those are scary stories. My situation is a bit different. Still your right these things always end up in court don’t they, I should prepare myself more.

Please do. I bolded the one sentence in your post b/c that’s what everyone says up until the other shoe comes crashing down on their heads.

Sean,

You need to see an attorney immediately, but please do so quietly. I assume from your post that there have been no legal arrangements put in place thus far (e.g., child support, alimony). It is only a matter of time before your wife realizes that she can stick it to you through the family courts - and she will.

It is tempting to believe that the courts would view this situation for he travesty that it appears to be and award you custody of the kids. While the ultimate likelihood of this depends on the state and local jurisdiction in which you live, in general, it is exceedingly rare for fathers to be awarded primary legal custody.

Prayers for you.

I don’t live in the u.s. The laws are different here but yes they still favour the mother. My situation is different - trust me. But yes it is time to see a lawyer.
