*Last week we had a sermon, and the body of it was,
Just because it is legal, it does not make it right" *

This was extremly thought provolking on many levels
and I feel, may be a good start to a discussion…

Not sure what else there is to say other than - good for your priest, for giving a good homily!

Can you tell us a little more about what was contained in the sermon? The converse, of course, is to say that because something is illegal does not make it wrong. It also depends upon how you define ‘right’ and ‘wrong’

There have been quite a few threads on CAF about the diffence between Positivist law and Natural Law. The former can be anything devised and decided upon by mankind or by any ruler or government. The latter has an objectivity attached to it which seeks to determine the rightness of a law according to long held observations, customs and universal standards that apply to all of mankind. The Catholic Catechism is underpinned by Natural Law. There are many ‘laws’ in place that legalise certain actions and behaviours that most of us regard as being ‘morally’ wrong. We say killing is wrong, yet there are laws in place that allow killing. How come?

In other news,

The sky is blue, The Pope is Catholic, and scientists concluded that bears poop in the woods. 😃
In extra news,
The sky is not always blue, we hope and pray the Pope is a Catholic and not all bears live in the woods, which means the scientists, typically, are only a little bit right.

We hope and pray the Pope is Catholic? Really? I’ve never heard any Church teaching or other opinion that says there is a question of whether the Pope is Catholic.

And how does such relate to this Thread? Thanks.
