Just causes for divorce?

are there any? for example, things like constant infideiity or abuse. i’m not talking about frivolous things like financial reasons or "falling out of love’.

and does anyone know how the church has dealt with this historically? before no fault divorce was accepted in to mainstream society. how were the severe cases dealt with?

Divorce is a civil proceeding, and laws regarding divorce/separation varied by country and government. How things were “handled” practically speaking also depended upon the laws, custom, and social class as well.

i guess the civil divorce we have now is still technically separation with the bond remaining isn’t it?

That is correct. The Marriage is presumed valid until proven otherwise. So, even though a couple might be civilly divorced, they are presumed Married until the Tribunal determines whether it is null.

I have a friend who is going through the anullment process and they were shown a list of 18 things that would be evidence of a null “Marriage”. Infidelity of the spouse and abuse were not on that list. I don’t know if such a list is determined locally, or what.
