I am wondering as I see in threads that the Catholic church church put the bible together. Do people mean catholic as universal with all the sees together or the Roman catholic church we know today and those just united with it ? Thanks…God bless…
at that time, there was only one church… the Catholic Church… all the other sees were in union with Rome and not separated. There was a Pope. In the Schism, some of the sees separated from Rome and the Pope.

God bless!

That is what I stated and precisely my point. The Roman Catholic Church was not an entire seperate entity apart from the CC;morevoer, it belonged and was known as part of the Catholic Church. 👍
That is NOT what you said. Further, you’ve been corrected, and rightly so. But you still insist on mis-stating the facts. Why?🤷 That’s like people saying we worship Mary, and us proving the fact that we don’t, yet you still turn around and say the same thing.

Hey ^, be nice in my thread.
I
Not trying be unkind. Just saying what I perceived. Be nice to everyone. That includes opponents of the Catholic Church. Remember who we are called to be, defenders of the truth.

I’ve found this book very informative on the subject:

“Where We Got the Bible: Our Debt to the Catholic Church”

by The Right Rev. HENRY G. GRAHAM

It’s a great read and I recommend buying it. I think you can find the text online as well.

In short, some timeframe:

The Council of Carthage, which was held in 397 A.D. settled the Canon or Collection of New Testament.
The Great Schism (Eastern Orthodox) happened in 1054.
Lutheranism and many following Protestant sects started in early/mid 1500’s.

Ah no! Read it again:

Well the Roman Catholic Church was part of the larger Catholic Church, which included both West and East. The “Roman” Catholic Church became more distinct during the Reformation, especially Anglicans who wanted to distinguish themselves from Rome.

When and where did I say the Roman Catholic Church was not part of the larger universal church?

No you have been corrected and perhaps it is you who does not comprehend. The Church at Rome did exist and never did I say it was an entire separate entity from the universal Catholic Church. The term “Roman” became more distinct at a later date,so I have no idea what you are talking about.

:oDuh! Oops. I see what you were saying now. All I saw was “Roman”, That would be okay, but in reality, it was Henry VIII that came up with the term. We we say Catholic, not catholic, we mean what came to be known as the Roman Catholic Church. I just don’t like it and avoid that use because it is misleading. In reality I to believe that all Christians belong to the universal meaning, but some are separated or lack the fullness of the faith. In essence, the entire Church is hurting as a result of sin, division. I also believe there is a lot to be learned from each other, if and only if we actually seek to understand each other. Sometimes, when things are said, the terminologies are completely misunderstood, as I’ve come to realize from my own misunderstandings about Catholicism growing up.
