It seems at times the Non-Catholic section of CAF recycles the same old topics. With that in mind, I’d like to have a discussion about something pushing the edge a little. Here are some options.

You know, I just learned that the males have a spur that has venom. It has to be the most bizarre animal ever.
I did not know that. Very interesting.

I need to change my options: 😉

The duck billed platypus; mammal, bird or vicious killing machine?

God bless

Did Jack cover that? Crud!
Yes, and as usual he somehow managed to turn it into a literary alter call at the end.

He could probably write a tract about a guy going to the bathroom and somehow turn it into a call for the sinner’s prayer.

Course I say that now, and he probably will…

My head hurts after that…

God bless
I went to a Christian high school ages ago and I remember our science teacher spent a week proving dinosaurs could have fit on the ark. He worked out the dimensions of the ark (as best could be estimated) and then worked out the working size of dinosaurs and eggs, etc. and then laid the ground work for them on the ark. I have not retained much from high school, but I’ll never forget that.

There was also a scientific explanation for why people lived 900+ years.
There was a theory that the earth had an exterior icey layer (above the atmosphere) that created a “green house effect” over the entire planet.

If anything it made me think about science from a Christian perspective (although I am not a scientist).

It is incorrect to call it a 'duckbilled platypus. It is just a platypus.
Australians get really narky when others shove in the ‘duckbilled’ thing.

Its Latin name is Ornithorhynchus anatinus

Its scientific classification is both monotreme and mammal.
It can poison you too.

If you want to be really clever, it’s either a mird, or a bammell.

Its natural predators include snakes, water rats, goannas, spotted quolls, eels, hawks, owls and eagles. In the north of its range, dingoes are another predator but way, way up north crocodiles love platypus morsels for desert.

If nothing else, the beautiful little platypus is proof writ large of God’s sense of humour and of His design credentials. I mean, no mere mortal could have come up with such a thing and as for evolution, well, if the rest of nature got that mixed up along the way, we’d be walking on ten legs, braying like donkeys, have three heads and be eating worms. If you ask for proof of God’s existence, just mention the platypus.

This subject gets very deep…

It makes me think of all the beautiful and interesting animals and creatures humankind has trampled over to do whatever it is we do. There were probably many other interesting ones.

What, you mean you don’t believe that the dinosaurs died off because after the flood there weren’t any trees and they couldn’t breathe? 😃
Why couldn’t they breathe?

Why don’t we have any swimming dinosaurs?

This is just the type of rational logic a baby-eating Catholic would have! How dare you challenge the almighty prophet Chick!
