FYI
Not rain on the parade…
I just wanted to note that often it is recommended that those who are scrupulous …or have scruples --not hang out with others who have this difficulty (unless perhaps they have them under control…etc)…
for one can ‘tend to pick up the scruples of others…’ etc and get worse…
of course each person is different.
so those out there…please be cautious and know yourself.
and if one does join…know when one should stop being a member etc…
also they should be cautious as to whom they listen to on a forum like this in the first place
for there is various backgrounds among members

I agree with this, even though I’m interested in hearing more about the group. My issues are usually fixed on specific topics, and don’t tend to branch out into anything else, so I’m safe. I do see what you’re saying, though. It’s sort of like how people who are in alcoholics anonymous are not necessarily (or at all) well served by the council or support of other alcoholics, especially those who are still addicted heavily. This is sort of like the blind leading the blind. It might be a good idea for this group to have a leader or groups of people who are themselves not scrupulous or do not suffer heavily from it. Otherwise, people may not be completely reliable when they need to be objective or subjective about something and some natural bias may occur, etc.Hello,

your welcome. and I will add that if a question comes up the group or members may feel free to contact me I have some experience in answering questions posed by those who struggle with scruples…and with my background in theology i am happy to help.
PS: my advice in the other post is classic and also it is similar to the advice given to the scrupulous to stick with one confessor when they can…for they can become confused if they get differing practical advice…again depending on the person and the variety of the areas of his scruples.
and a second PS. it is important to note that while some with OCD can have a problem with scruples…scruples does not = per se OCD. though there can be a similarity in experience and even in cure…

I used to think I was scrupulous, but then during aspirancy class, a priest described the difference between true scrupulosity and a very aware conscience. Many times a very aware conscience is confused to be scrupulous, but in reality is not. He gave examples to differentiate between the two (scrupulous, for example, “I ate on a Friday during Lent with a spoon that I’m not sure if was cleaned throughly enough from the chicken soup I ate last night” - though the spoon was washed in the same manner as all the other dishes). Hope this makes some feel better who may have thought they were scrupulous, I know it did for me and my husband (who thought I was scrupulous).

yes there is a distinction between one who
has a ‘tender conscience or delicate conscience’ that sees the finer distinctions and seeks very much to avoid even very small sins …and …who can judge normally between mortal and venial sin…when in doubt is able to make judgments overcoming his doubt by prudence or abide by good advice etc
and scruples or those who are even of a higher degree of scrupulosity. for they take venial sin to be mortal…or non sins to be sins…or are plagued by doubts…unreasonable fears/anxieties about sins…they may fear sin even in most of their actions…etc
of course there are degrees in both and it is possible for a person to have generally a delicate conscience and still have a struggle with scruples in certain areas…
and a person may go from one to the other…
