It was in 5th or 6th grade and I remember nothing except we had to wear red beanies, that cost $3, parents didn’t have it, and I had to scrounge for it, earned by ironing and babysitting. Also had to have a navy blue skirt (could not wear our school uniforms for some reason) and could not find one in my size (I was a chubette size) and wore another dark color, and being afraid “sister will kill me.” Half the girls had on colors other than navy, some even wore our school uniforms and sister killed nobody. over 200 4th, 5th and 6th graders were confirmed at the same time, a typical boomer sacramental experience. I just remember being a soldier of Christ and a bit disappointed we were not issue weapons. My sponsor was a teenager who was also our babysitter, and my Confirmation name was Joan, because I thought it a fine martial name for a girl.
