Does a person have to obey his parents rules no matter what age as long as he is living under their roof?

Yes. It’s their house, so they make the rules. When you have your own home, you make the rules–that is unless you are renting space from your parents as an adult pulling his own weight. But, no matter what, you don’t have the right to do anything immoral no matter whose house it is if you want to be a faithful Catholic. 😉

Well I’m not talking about anything immoral, but rather if they make rules for you, do you have to obey as long as you’re living there?

YUP…it is there house and rules…you have to follow them;)
Now if you dont like the rules you always have an option…move out 🙂

Yes, in general you should respect the boundaries your parents set for you while living in their house.

If their “rules” were to somehow cause you to transgress the moral law, then you would not be obligated to follow them (for example, if they had a “rule” forbidding Mass attendance)-- but you should then look for a new place to live out of respect for them.

Let’s put it this way:

If you have an apartment, do you have to obey the landlord’s rules? (Yep–or get evicted).

If you have a house, do you have to obey your local zoning rules? (Or with a condo, its rules?)–again, yep. Or you’ll get fined or worse.

No matter where you go, there are rules. Even if you want to find some land in Alaska and live in a cave, there will still be rules (bears don’t like sharing, for example).

So yes. Just one answer now, seriously.

They maka da rules, you follow da rules. Provided they are not illegal or immoral.
