Just realized what the DaVinci Code

There are so many poorly catechized Catholics in this country that this book and now the movie are going to damage. We even have a priest who wanted to know if my MIL had read this book. He was advocating it! Half our parish has already read the book, and I think they believe it!
Let’s face it. This is an attack on Christianity and specifically the Catholic Church. Satan knows when to strike. The Church in this country is in serious trouble already. Dissidence and heresy are everywhere. My generation (born in the 70s) has practically all been lost except for the few who taught themselves about their faith as adults and the very lucky few who had devout parents. So fill a world with poorly catechized lukewarm Catholics who cannot defend their faith, add a huge sex scandal, the apparent apathy of many, priests, bishops and leaders, throw in moral relativism, materialism and new age “spirituality”, and you don’t need to consult your psychic friend to see how something like the DaVinci Code can cause serious damage.
We need to start informing people NOW! Evangelize, people! Let’s counteract this nonsense before any more of God’s sheep get deceived.

I know many will scoff, but keep in mind that even the USCCB is concerned about this DaVinci phenomenon. So much so that they have developed a complete web site and television special about it. ** www.jesusdecoded.com**. ( I’m not going to make it a link, cause I always mess that up. ) But I, for one, plan to order the bulletin inserts when they become available and I will also be protesting at the theater when this comes to town. I have been reading *The DaVinci Deception * and *The DaVinci Hoax * to prepare.

I think this quote is quite revelant:
Be as careful of the books you read as of the company you keep, for your habits and character will be as much influenced by the former as the latter. - Paxton Hood

As a fictional work, it was quite an interesting read. The action was fact paced and had a wicked twist and all … but at the end of the day, it remains a work of fiction.

The problem with this book is not that it spins a good yarn by taking elements of truth and twisting it (heck, isn’t that what most stories are about?); the problem with this book is that it takes this yarn and attempts to portray it as a possible version of truth.

It doesn’t do anything for folk who are in the know, we see it for what it is - fiction. It is terribly damaging for those NOT in the know.

I love seeing the furor over this, because the more attention you pay to it, the more you try to stomp it down, the more popular it will become. It works that way every single time but somehow people never see it until the effects have been had.

I don’t understand why you love seeing this.

There always have been hereseys and there will always have to be oposition. Read up on st. Anthony the Heretic Hammer for some perspective.

If you try to ban it, it will become more popular. This is fact. You’re shooting yourselves in the foot, that’s all. This aside from my feelings that people who want to censor books are pretty darn high on my “ignore that guy” list.

I dont think that is a fact I think it is an opinion. No one is talking censorship here just defending the faith from a book that attacks it. “You are shooting yourselves in the foot”? Are you not one of us. I doubt you would have the same opinion if it were a Nazi sympathizing book deneying the holocaust that was being mass produced in movie form and you would realy advise Jews not to try to educate? Or maybe you would like that.

I’d think it was insane, but such are the pratfalls of a free market. And of course people would get up in arms about it and put it in newscasts and articles and it would seel a million copies as a result.

Ignore it and it will go away? man I hope you aren’t going to be an oncologist.

I would not waste my time or money on the book or the movie. I will stay clear of both and keep my children away too. I have spoke to people who read the book and they tried to convince me that it was true. I told them it was simply rubbish and don’t even try to sway me. Of course, the people who tried to do this were either fallen away Catholics or anti-Catholics.
