Just received affirmation of an annulment

I’m not sure where to put this, but after a little over a year, I received notice today that my annulment was affirmed. My situation is probably a little unusual, my wife and I were married outside the church, 28 years ago when the process was started. We didn’t want to wait for it to get married (I know bad mistake) but I had to come to the Church on my own. I was raised Baptist, spent about 2 or three years researching the Catholic faith and eventually told my wife last fall that I wanted to take RCIA classes and regularize our marriage with the Church. Anyway, somewhere along the way, I realized that the very things I loved most about my wife were the direct result of her upbringing in the church and in her own way, she led me into it as well. Our children were baptized Catholic, she did her best to teach them without my help, and they have all turned out well. I guess I was a little slow coming around, but the end result is what’s important!

Am I understanding correctly…that the annulment took 28 years to get?

(I think. Is getting an annulment meant to be a happy, celebratory thing?)

The process can be painful, but I guess if you get what you were seeking there might be reason to celebrate the process is over and the person can move forward .

I am a little confused too.

I think you are saying that you can now normalize your current marriage because a previous marriage is now declared null?

Yes, we were married 28 years before I decided to join the church and get my previous declared null. We’ll be married 30 years next fall.

I’ve already been thru RCIA, have to do a marathon confession (I think I’ll have dinner catered), confirmed, communion, then they said they’ll do the validation of our marriage immediately after that.
