diet coke,

You are doing fine.
  1. Some people on this board misunderstand piety for real faith. Not in all cases does greater shows of piety mean greater faith. If you can’t kneel, no problem. I personally like to see people dress up for Mass, but if you are truly living a life of grace, who am I to argue with jeans.
  2. In addition, some people on this board also think that if being a traditional Catholic is good, then the more traditional you are the better Catholic you are. Not so. Orthodoxy – meaning following the teachings of the Church – is the only way to go. If the Church teaches Saturday Mass and receiving in the hand is OK, then it’s OK, regardless of what some people on this board think. The Magisterium’s authority is the final word over those people’s opinions.
👍

Well, my point was - is it really so hard in this day and age to simply put on a pair of shoes and socks when going to worship God? It probably takes 2 minutes of a person’s time - is that too much too ask from a person when going to Church?..Why is the workplace worthy of proper dress, but God is not?
I don’t look at people’s feet. I really don’t. I don’t know why. I have been known to wear giant pink gym shoes with an outfit. Maybe that’s why.🙂

If diet coke’s knees are bad, maybe it’s easier to slip on flipflops than to go through the work of putting on socks and shoes. I know my auntie has a device to put on hers, as she is arthritic, when she wear socks.

In my workplace, we wear jeans a lot. It’s a tech thing.

Keep the faith, diet coke! You sound like you’re on the straight and narrow path to heaven.

Everyone, flip flops aren’t beachwear anymore. They are considered “office wear” in many casual offices. Kids are allowed to wear them to school.

Rubber clogs, which at one point not so long ago were just “gardening shoes,” are also “office wear.”

Do you all remember Michael Johnson, the Olympic track star who wore the Golden Shoes?

My mother suffered for many years from crippling rheumatoid arthritis. Her feet didn’t even look like feet, they looked like twisted vulture talons She couldn’t wear shoes even if she wanted to.

When Michael Johnson was in the Olympics, my mother raved about how beautiful he looked when he ran, and how strong his legs and feet were. She was probably his biggest fan! She just loved watching that man run! She wasn’t jealous of him. She just admired his feet!

This is the way I feel about people’s feet–they are an amazing creation of God. Did you know that a third of the body’s bones are in the feet? Did you know that the posterior tibial tendon (along the inside of the ankle) holds up the entire arch, which basically supports the body’s weight?

In March, I had major foot surgery to repair my posterior tibial tendon and fix major deformities of the foot that had been caused by the breaking of this important tendon.

I’m still re-learning how to walk.

I am so full of awe at how wondrous “feet” are. Up until now, I always took them for granted.

I see nothing wrong with someone showing the feet that God made for them.

I wish I had beautiful, strong feet, but I am grateful that my feet still work (kind of) after the surgery, and I am filled with admiration and awe of the well-formed feet of others.

There is a Bible verse that says, “How beautiful how the feet of them that preach the Gospel of peace.”

Beautiful feet are a reminder to us of God’s creative genius and His Gospel of peace. When I see someone wearing flip flops, I don’t think, “Irreverent.” I think, “God is great!” Those bare feet remind me to thank God for MY feet!

Sometimes all we need is a little bit of perspective. Thanks Cat!😉

And Mario Batali made those crocs (plastic gardening shoes, plastic/ rubber clogs) popular, too! He wears them everywhere, I’m told. Again, I had to have them pointed out to me.

The only reason I don’t like people wearing flip flops is because I worry they will slice their feet. Other than that, my daughter told me there are flip flops that cost over $50. I worry the people in flip flops will look down on me and my low budget shoes.

I believe the point is MODESTY! What are jeans but pants with denim material?? If they are proper fitting and not skin tight the problem is??? Of course we want to look our best for Our Lord, but I really don’t think he expects us to wear a full set of warmer clothing when it is 95 in the shade and church has no air and no circulation. How in the world could one possibly concentrate on mass that way?🤷 That being said, it is a different story to see short shorts and halter tops at mass. That is really not necessary to keep cool. MODESTY is the key here.

I wouldn’t worry about that, either. While DH wears his deck shoes, and the girls wear their glorified flip-flops, I am wearing 5-year old (maybe older) slip-ons I got at Payless or Wal-Mart. They are still in good shape, and I only wear them once a week.

Exactly.

Not to hijack the thread, but I have to comment on this. While modesty is extremely important, so is APPROPRIATE dress. (I find it interesting that people will dress nicer for a wedding or going to a nice restaurant than for a Mass. Why not dress just as nice for the Supper of the Lord?) The Mass is not just any activity. I would never make dressing up a requirement imposed from the outside, but I long for Catholics to impose that upon themselves, from the inside. To WANT to dress up, to present themselves in a way that recognizes that they are doing something different from the rest of the day, that they are attending something extraordinary…the Sacrifice of the Mass.

That does not make diet coke or any of us “bad” for not doing so. Just as it is not my place to judge her for jeans and flip-flops, it is not my place to judge you for a tie and suit or a nice dress.
