Just watched “The Passion of the Christ” again, and I saw something that I couldn’t believe I missed last time…

When Jesus is carrying the cross, and he falls (one of many), they cut to his mother, Mary, running to him to give him comfort. This is intercut with a ‘flashback’ of a younger Mary running to a child Jesus (it looks like he has just fallen or something, or at least hurt himself)…

They switch back and forth between both scenes, and in each, when Mary finally reaches Jesus, she yells out “I’m here!”

I never realized how much that scene moved me before. It seems to sum up the essence of motherhood, in a very strong way. How Mary is willing to reach out and do anything for her Son…

Very powerful stuff. 😉

I remember watching it the first time and this was a moment that I just cried and cried. It’s very touching how Mary as his mother would do anything for him. It was a very moving scene for me.

It is already Good Friday here in NZ, 2:25pm. I am about to say my Rosary (offered for an end to abortion and terrorism), Divine Mercy Chaplet & start the Divine Mercy Novena.

Later today I will re-watch The Passion.
Hi Everyone,
Imagine what might happen if every catholic in the world would pray a Rosary on the same day! We have an example in October of 1573, when Europe was saved from the invasion of the mighty Turkish fleet. Europe was saved by the praying of the Rosary by all Christians! So, on Good Friday, let’s all pray a Rosary for the intention of ending abortion, including an end to Terrorism.

If possible, please pray your Rosary between noon and 3:00pm.
Also, please e-mail this message to every catholic on your address list, and ask them to pass it along to every catholic on their lists. Let’s unite in praying one of the most powerful prayers on one of the holiest days, for two of this increasingly urgent intention.
May God bless you all and may you all have a very Blessed and Holy, Holy Week and Easter
In Christ,
Regards . . .

And IIRC, Jesus says to her “See, Mother, I make all things new.”

I can’t even think about that scene without crying aloud.

I should watch it this year. Its become a tradition of sorts.

Not really. But it should, I suppose.

I’m always very affected by that part too :crying: Also the part where Jesus is saying ‘Father, forgive them’ as he’s being nailed to the Cross :crying: and the bit where Mary kisses Jesus’ feet :crying:

But I’ve always wondered why so many falls? There must be at least half a dozen, not just the traditional three.

And the whole Simon of Cyrene thing is a bit of a puzzle - why pluck a random person from the crowd to help carry a criminal’s cross? And why make someone who wasn’t a supporter of his help out, and someone was very reluctant initially to get involved at that?

Why not one of his supporters instead, as a lesson to them? I can’t help thinking Simon must actually have been a supporter of his.

And everyone leaves before Jesus says ‘Eloi Eloi lama sabbachthani’ which is incorrect - they were still very much there and arguing over whether he was calling for Elijah or not.

I watch it last night too, and I was following the movie by praying the Rosary with the Sorrowful mysteries - the images of the movie really helped me focusing on these mysteries.

I wonder if we could unite to pray the same reasons in New Zealand? I would call terrorism in NZ the back handedness of our government, e.g. do you think we could all email txt or other for catholics to pray for this no smacking bill (terrorism against family) to be abolished. Also the abortion as well?
I would send this to as many as possible to pray on say, 2. 25 on Easter Monday, since we have a holiday.

God bless

We watched it last night and I just cried and cried in this part. I knelt down and said a prayer to my heavenly Father.
I also prayed the rosary afterwards.
