Interesting,

This family was Catholic when I was growing up and went down south one summer and became “Saved”. The dad became a pastor in his home etc.

I never realized when I was the wedding that it would be Messianic. Honestly, I feel like people who are Messianic don’t know if they want to be Jewish and are just stealing traditions from the Jews. I don’t know if that is the right way to say it. They broke a glass at the end had a chuppah (canopy under which a Jewish couple stand during their wedding ceremony.) They also washed each others feet (that reminded me of Holy Thursday 🙂 )

I had reservations about going to the wedding to begin with, but I know for a fact I will be happy to go to Mass tomorrow. I don’t know how the reception will be. We will see…

My issue is the gift I am giving them and the card say God bless out home. I don’t know if they use the word God but say Jehovah and Yahweh. I heard Yeshua at the wedding. It is too late, but I hope they still like the gift… I am Catholic and if I would have known I was going to more of a Jewish wedding I would have gotten more of an appropriate gift. I also gave them a gift card.

I’ve been to one of those before. It rubs me the wrong way too. Real Jewish people have such a painful history that it just seems inappropriate to me to adopt their traditions to be novel. I don’t know though, how actual Jewish people feel about it. I actually like the idea behind the foot washing though. I don’t think my friends that had the same traditions at their wedding would mind your gift at all.

My understanding of the reasoning is a decision to obey the Mosaic law as opposed to the laws that the various Christian churches dreamed up. That naturally involves some involvement in Judaism. There are some groups (Jews for Jesus) who observe these traditions as a missionary tactic to convert Jews to some branch of Christianity. They are viewed unfavorably within Judaism.

Agree. Most Jews in my circle are extremely wary of Jews for Jesus or other Messianic Jewish groups. And I actually agree with them.
