6. The Sufficiency of Scripture for salvation
Holy Scripture contains all things necessary for salvation. Consequently whatever is not read in Scripture nor can be proved from Scripture cannot be demanded from any person to believe it as an article of the faith. Nor is any such thing to be thought necessary or required for salvation. By holy scripture is meant those canonical books of the Old and New Testaments whose authority has never been doubted within the church
This is why they only uphold Baptism and the Lord’s Supper as necessary sacraments as these are the only ones Jesus insisted upon in Scripture
Close, but not quite. Some Anglicans take that approach. But more generally, Anglicans distinquish between the 2 Dominical sacraments, those of Baptism and the Holy Eucharist, as scripturally established by Our Lord (hence, “Dominical”) and the remaining 5 Sacraments, which are none the less effective channels of Grace. The Dominical Sacraments are said to those “generally” (that is, to the majority of mankind) necessary for salvation.
Remember, there are Anglicans, and then there are Anglicans. And the 39 Articles are in no sense binding on Anglicans generally. Really. Ask Traditional Ang.
