Just *why* is marijuana use wrong?

I love good scotch and I wish that the alcohol would not affect my brain. This way I could drink as much as I please, and the same it is with wine. I would be drinking a bottle of Amarone every day for lunch instead of this stupid soda if it were not for the alcohol.
It might be a matter of experience. My shotgun team shoots in a night trap league, and, after the final round, we pour out an ounce or two of a good single malt scotch to unwind and shoot the breeze (not literally). But we’ve been doing this for years, we’re adults (casino executives, an engineer, an attorney), everyone knows his limits, everyone has to drive home, everyone has to get up early in the morning and go to work. So its not a big deal.

Something you and I can agree on-I invite you, if your ever in NH to come and shoot with my friends and I.

I was not criticizing you. I was just expressing my wish that I could drink a lot more wine without getting drunk. The older I get the less I stand soda.

Soda will kill you.
LOL! Again, it all comes down to chemistry… sugar, insulin, the chemical in soda that breaks down your stomach lining… AND cleans your toilet… you could probably put soda and pot in the same category of things that should be avoided…

You are just making my point that it is about the buzz. The rest can be and add on. but it really about the effect of the active ingredient. You are saying that you use marijuana for medical purposes, then it means that you use it for its effect as a narcotic.
Yes, and I’m not going to use something that is offensive to my nose or taste buds if I can at all avoid it, so I look for something that tastes good and smells pleasant (the buds, of course, since I can’t speak to the smoke because one can’t smell what one is smoking) and gives me the effect I need. For example, Cat P*** may give a good effect (and it did), but I couldn’t stand the taste (I needed a soda nearby, no joke!). In fact, the only reason I finished it off is because I already paid for it and couldn’t return it.
The fact that there are magazines about taste and smell does not mean anything.
No, of course not. That’s why a magazine called West Coast Cannabis, which I’ve read, has articles for those interested on the topic. Some articles deal with farming, some are reviews of various strains and they go in depth about all the aspects of the strains. What do they look like, how do they smell, how do they taste, what kind of effect does it give you, etc.

After all, if you’re suffering from back pain, you want to get what will help you with your back pain. If you’re depressed, you want something that will help you break out of your depression, and so on.

You’ve probably never been to a dispensary, but for the first timer, it’s an overwhelming experience. I’ve been several times and it’s still a challenge. There are anywhere from 5 to 25 strains available, depending on the dispensary, and they’re ALL different.

Sort of like wine or beer, but in this case, it’s medicine.
Do you remember when there were a lot of “naturist” magazines that had really nothing to do with being a true naturist?
Nope.

We do have greatly differing points of view on the role of government in saving us from ourselves.
There is a document that starts with the words: We The People.

Sad that the government is always viewed as the villain until it gives people something they want.

And God forbid that anybody would make anybody feel guilty or uncomfortable about anything, or cause them to rethink their behavior. We’re all in this together, including the government. And the government should “promote the general welfare,” and not be an excuse that limits anyone’s “freedom” to harm yourself. The cost for driving drunk keeps going up and up. That is an appropriate role for government and law enforcement.

Peace,
Ed

The writers of the constitution refused to give the government unfettered powers to interfere with people just because something might be “good”.

“We the People” does not mean you. As a matter of constitutional law, it actually means very, very little. “General welfare” has a technical meaning that doesn’t mean what you think it does, again, it doesn’t let the fed regulate everything that you think is harmful. Thank the gods for that, there are enough busybodies around.

So, do you ever crack open a Bud? If you ever do, you’ll want to visit an AA meeting to see the horrible effects that satan’s brew can have on people. Right?

Honestly, folx, the question is not about the use of alcohol. Right? 😊

It’s about how to address the issue of MARIJUANA… which happens to be a plant… which happens to be smoked… which happens to not be directly addressed in scripture or even the CCC - NOT DIRECTLY, at least not that I’ve seen, which is why I am asking the questions.:o

Many (most) of the replies have been very helpful… but this side track of ‘Booze is Bad’ is messing up this thread.

Please stay on track, shall we 😛

“interfere with people”? Just cause you can’t go to a local party and smoke joint after joint, so what? Or are you posting here to get the OK from a bunch of total strangers? Marijuana in joint form is bad. It is just as natural as tobacco and has chemicals that can harm your lungs like tobacco.

Or are you posting because you think religious folks might stop the passage of general use marijuana? As a former dope dealer in Detroit said a few days ago, “Kids do what they see.” Fortunately, he quit the business and is doing something positive for himself now.

“busybodies”? You mean like all those who post here to keep an eye on what Catholics are doing 🙂

Peace,
Ed

He’s actually really onto something Ed. There are MANY busybodies from all sorts of walks of life who try to tell you what to do and how to live your life.

Oh, you must mean the media. Every time I look and read about what “Americans” are doing, 99.9% of the time, I’m not.

And the “fashion industry”:okpeople:

Who paid for all those tattoo parlors? I mean once you’ve pierced and tattooed yourself, where do new customers come from? Honestly.

Peace,
Ed

I’m sorry, I have no idea what your talking about or how what you said is relevant to the topic.

I think you’re going to have a hard time finding exact biblical quotes for exact drug abuse. And isn’t that what it all really boils down to? Drug abuse? Can you find anything in the bible about poppy’s? Those are a plant… when used wrong = very bad. What about a cocoa bean? That’s a plant, when used wrong… not so good.

Do you NEED a bible quote to explain why drugs are bad for you in excess? And why some can just be plain dangerous? Especially something that’s not prescribed, or manafactured with specific standards. It seems the bible quotes that discuss caring for your body like a temple would address this sort of thing. But do you NEED one? Do you need a bible quote to explain that taking your prescribed drugs outside of the prescribe scope could be just as addicting as any illegal drug?

BTW - Most alcohol has it’s start in a plant. Hops = Beer, Grapes = wine, Rice = Saki And we all know that Jesus turned water into wine. So even if you find a quote in the bible that talks about drunkeness, and how bad that is… abusing your body and such, I don’t think it means that no one can ever drink. And that to drink is a sin. Certainly Jesus would not have offered it to others, the best quality at that? CERTAINLY, the Catholic church wouldn’t site the Wedding at Cana as one of the most important mircles done by Christ… Certainly, not with something that would be sinful for all to indulge in. CERTAINLY, not with something we hand out to even minors every Sunday for just a sip??? But the church does caution against drug abuse, inclusive of alcohol.

But can’t you compare these “drugs” side by side? Pot and alcohol can be used socially. Granted, you can’t get drunk if I have a drink, just by sitting next to me. All find their base ingredient in a plant. (not sure how that matters… but seems important to you) Both can ease physical pain. Both can be become addicting in their own right. Both can cause impaired judgement.

You can also ingest Pot… hence brownies… Can you drink it? Like a tea? I have no idea.

I guess my question… Why the hair splitting? This is like asking about each different type of birthcontrol out there to see if you get a different answer. The basic answer is, if you’re using it for BC, then the answer is NO. Surely you don’t expect the bible to list specifically name brands? So why for any type of drug. If you’re abusing your body with ANY DRUG, that’s not ok… we all know that.

I personally don’t approve of pot. The legality has much to do with that. But I also don’t approve of smoking. It generally effects those around you. Drinking doesn’t (unless you then get in a car and wantonly drive it around like a weapon). It does however, effect your health. And I would caution anyone, and exercise it myself with regard to that. I don’t want to destroy my liver to enjoy the cabs of the world. I don’t drive if I’ve had a drink. And I don’t file my taxes at the same time either. Granted it might help emotionally:D
