Hello again everybody! Been a while since I have last posted! 😃

Anyways, the other day I was asked this question (below) which kind of left me stumped because I knew it was wrong, could point out the obvious mistake in the argument but I cannot figure out how to exactly explain it to be wrong.
Is it better to go fishing and think about God all day, or to attend Mass and think about fishing throughout it?
It’s a stupid argument but I’m completely stumped for some odd reason.

Thanks for the help and God Bless!! 😃

It’s not about what’s better but about worship. We owe God worship. He is the creator and we are the creation. Worship is God’s by right because of who God is and who we are.

Whatever anyone thinks worship is, they owe it to God. For Catholics that means participation in the Mass. Others worship according to what they know.

Very few would agree however, that thinking about God while fishing is worship. Catholic’s don’t believe that God is that easily pleased and try to do a little better.

This is what is known as a loaded question in logic. It is a logical fallacy.

Neither is ā€œbetterā€. You need to decouple this fallacious either/or and address each part separately.

1ke is right. Neither is good.

Exactly.

The first better to not insult Jesus at Mass

I think a 10 years old would ask this, not a grown person who should know better.

Have you read your Catechism of the Catholic Church, do you know it, studied it, a good book is Catholicism is for Dummies is also exactly reading.

Thinking about God is not worship. Going to Mass is worship. Having something else you’d prefer to do is not a valid reason for attending Mass.

Well, your thoughts aren’t imposed on you from outside. What’s better is to go to Mass and sincerely try to think about God. Even if you fail, your sincere efforts will be helping you to keep control of your thoughts in the future.

Believe me, the Catechism has become like my 8th sense hahaha 😃
