Raise your hand if either you or a sibling or child of yours wasn’t planned?
raises hand
My mother was severely physically disabled. Severe birth defect that is very rare and left only her head and torso normal. She was not supposed to have children and the doctors said she’d die around 30 years old. She had a baby at 18 (gave him up for adoption), had me at 24, had my sister at 32 and my brother at 34. Both siblings were birth control fails. She was warned having more kids could literally kill her, was on the pill, and got pregnant anyways. She was scared, but thrilled as she wanted 12 kids since she was a child herself. Since she couldn’t have more (carrying my brother almost killed her then she had cancer and a hysterectomy) she contented herself with raising us and “adopting” neighbor kids.
I know OP is worried about her hip and functioning as a parent. My mom had 48 major operations, walked with a crutch inside on the days she could move and used a wheelchair outside. She had the scariest “look” a mom can glare that often stopped us in our tracks. She taught us to do the things around the house she couldn’t do and supervised us doing it until we were old enough to work alone. She always worried she wasn’t doing enough for us. Truth is, her disability taught us so much! We learned to care for each other, other people, and take care of a house and yard from her. Even if the hip is a dud, you’ll do fine! Just wait and see. have some faith, a sense of humor, and think outside the box when you need to!
My oldest daughter is a birth control pill baby. I was in literal shock when I found out I was pregnant. I even seriously considered abortion or giving her up for adoption.
My second daughter was a condom baby. When I found out I was pregnant with her I cried for 3 days straight. Funeral homes have had more cheerful atmospheres than my house did for those 3 days.
My son was also a surprise. I don’t know why we were so surprised. We weren’t actively preventing conception, so it shouldn’t have been unexpected when a baby was made.
All of my kids know the stories of their pregnancies. We laugh and joke about it. The girls think they’re special since they came to be when I was actively preventing conception. Obviously they were meant to exist for a reason. My son thinks he’s special because his dad (2nd husband) said he knew he was going to have one son ever since he was a child and there he is…the always known about one son.
Heck, thinking about friends and family, I know very few who had planned pregnancies. Almost every kid I know was a surprise. A few were shocks!
