JW armageddon

I noticed 2 very anti-Catholic pictures p13 and p29.

A jw claims that the picture on pge 29 means,
From their pulpits priests declare that they are followers of God … THEIR WORD.

From their deeds, blessing wars (thus … killing … thus murder)… THEIR DEEDS.

The first post lists the the common beliefs of the Watchtower Society and the World Wide Church of God. It’s my understanding that the founders of both groups - Russell (WT) and Armstrong (WWCG) were togehter for several years under the same “Bible Students” banner. They parted ways when Armstrong disagreed with Russell’s methods of making the “organization” grow. But that explains why the two religions were so similar.

The World Wide Church of God suffered a major split maybe 10 years ago (?) when many of the leaders announced they were wrong about several of their key beliefs - preaching against the Trinity being one them. Although they lost many members who were unwilling to change - the leaders really did a total turn around and they have since become much more mainstream in their beliefs and are no longer considered a “cult” by groups who classify such things.

I will jump for joy if the Watchtower Society does the same.

Opps! :o I stand corrected. Apparently Russell & Armstrong - the founders of the WT & the World Wide Church of God were never “together” - but rather, both were a product of the SDA movement. It is interesting that both men had such similar views… and it’s true that the WWCG had since become much more mainstream in their thinking. So there’s hope for the Watchtower Society also…
 
In addition to believing that all other religions are under Satan’s control… JW’s also believe that all political rulers & governments are also under Satan and will be destroyed at the end of “this system of things.”

You might find the Catholic understanding of God to be an interesting subject to explore. He believes in both Justice and Mercy and we are to work in the world, with creation, towards His means. We aren’t always good at doing His Will, but we are certainly meant to try and improve in doing so.

I honestly believe that you think we’re on similar pages with regards to our understanding of who God is, but from what I understand (limited as it is) of the God taught in the Kingdom Halls, there are many very significant differences.

I encourage you to learn more. I think you might be surprised at the extent of LOVE that a God of infinite Love has, even having His own Son offered so that we can be saved from our sins.

God, who is infinite love, infinite justice and infinite wisdom manages to bring these together through the offering of his infinite son for the finite and yet massive sins of humanity against an infinite God. An offense against infinite Love are an infinite offense, which we as finite creatures could never correct on our own. So he has provided us with the only means possible of correcting our errors.

The thing is, some aspects of these truths are self evident, others are easy to get confused. And so, we end up with a world full of slight variations of the Truth. But why would God leave us drifting without a clear way of knowing His Truth from paths that are off course? He promised that the Gates of Hell would not prevail against his Church, so it must have been in existance from that time forward.

This is the Catholic Church, which was founded by Christ and can trace her unbroken history from person to person, with multitudes of cross references, internal and external sources to confirm it, from that time to now.

Anyway, there’s much that’s different in how we know and understand God. That’s what you’ll be asked to allow your children to know and accept as truth.

This is an interesting thread. These images of Armageddon seem much more graphic than I recall as a kid. Of course to me it just looks like an advertisement to, “Go ahead and drink the Kool-aid, everything will be just fine.”

I don’t know how JW’s can look at these images and just simply not see.
 
You think those pictures are bad? I just got a piece of junk mail from the Seventh Day Adventist Church (I looked up the location of their Church address from the pamphlet) it actually didn’t say it was from them, it just said Church Auditorum and the address; its declaring that ‘the end times are near’ and ‘time is running out for the Earth’ and that they’re having a seminar about everything in the bible…and of course its addressed to Resident. This is going through the paper shredder.
 
I had a visit from a couple of JW’s last month and talked to them for almost an hour. I gave them a copy of the “Pillar of Fire, Pillar of Truth” book and asked them to read it to find out what the Catholic faith teaches. They in turn gave me “Watchtower” Magazines. Since they said they already knew about what the Catholic Church teaches because JW’s study all other religions, I asked what their sources are. They said their info is from a book called “Mankind’s Search for God”. I said I would like to see it, so yesterday they dropped off a copy with a promise to be back to discuss it with me
It seems that JW’s and Christians have very little in common.They do not believe that Jesus is God, but is God’s son.They, of course, then do not believe in the Holy Trinity. They do not believe humans have an immortal soul, but in death we fall asleep. They believe the truth of what Jesus taught was lost after the original apostles died, and that the Greek and Roman pagan influence has guided Chrietianity ever since.

I am not good at quoting Scripture, though I read the Bible every day. (Horrible memory!) I would like to know whether I should spend my time talking to the JW’s when they come back, and if so, where do I start? Any suggestions?

If you want to sure. They are tenacious and will use out of context sources to back up their claims. Be ready to do some study if you’re looking to tangle with the JW’s. As wrong as they are in all areas of doctrine, they have many ready answers for the novice. I find it faith building because I am forced to really dive into what the Church teaches and why. I hope you find it likewise if you decide to take them on.

Please just remember to always be charitable. It is not your job to convict these souls of their error, merely to point it out. The Holy Spirit is in charge of conviction.
 
I have also found great growth in the process of discussing the faith (and learning to answer questions) with Catholics and non-Catholics alike. There were times where just exactly the right answer was on my tongue or presented it to me at just the time I needed it and I knew that the Holy Spirit must be involved. I suggest a couple of things to ensure that you are proceeding according to God’s will.

1.) Pray about it before you meet with them, if possible, before the Blessed Sacrament.

2.) Ask them if they would mind setting a couple of ground rules to your time together. Ask that you all agree that what you hope to accomplish is a better understanding of the Truth as given by God, not to win one another over to your personal point of view. This is typically something that any believer in God is willing to commit to and it helps to set it out front that you are open to the Truth, whereever it might be found and they are similarly disposed.

3.) Ask them if you could pray together for the guidance of God in your discussions. Keep the prayer centered on God in terms that you both agree upon (I don’t know if they believe in the Holy Spirit, so I would simply invoke God, the Father). This again helps to set the tone of the discussion and gives you common ground from which to function. Common ground, based upon God, even if their understanding of God is different than ours, is a good place to start.

Then, remember the ground rules you have set and do whatever you can to keep your pride out of the process. This means remembering that all credit for their “seeing” your points remains with the Holy Spirit and if they are not seeing the truth as taught by the Holy Catholic Church, it may just be that they have not been given the gift of faith at this particular time. Make Christ available in the most Charitable way you can and allow God to move their heart. If you can help them to not harden their hearts to the message of the Lord, you will have done a wonderful thing. And you will most likely grow in your own faith in the process.

I remember alot of those images from the WT! Very scary! Not funny at all! I especially remember the image of the man blessing the guns that kill people. That is not a good image to view:( It kind of terrified me! When the judgement comes, it is not going to be
about smiling faces! I sometimes used to wonder when I was a JW why they used such graphic images to depict their rendition of things. Now I know why. Seems to me, that they use these images in their magazines when they study them to get their members to stay in line, it is almost like fear tactics, disobey and you lose out on everlasting life, ext ext ext. you know, my husband Frank could never understand the JW’s, and he still doesn’t. Especially when it comes to the blood issue. I fully understand them, and fully comprehend just how deeply these images they use can keep one so brainwashed that they have a hard time to get out of it, and when they do, they never forget their experiences believe me! I think they are a very scary religion, them and the Church of Scientology! Not a good thing for anyone to get involved with! Iam glad I listened to my mom and got out!
