Hopefully our JW brothers and sisters that have been posting in the other thread, will join us here. (Again to the JW welcome)

That is how you interpret the Word of God. That is not how I interpret it and see it. I think that you should do a google search for the word: Onanism and Coitus interruptus.

Coitus Interruptus means to pull out or withdrawal before the ejaculation. That is what Onan did, he withdrew. It’s because he withdrew and wasted his semen he was put to death.

What he did was NOT natural…that is why he was put to death.

Condoms also make the semen wasteful!! They like pulling out prevent the semen from entering the vagina.

Therefore condoms like Coitus Interruptus are a SIN in Gods eyes. Scripture is clear on that!!!

I do hope that you read the medical data on Birth Control Pills, IUDs, Depo-Provera and Norplant.

If you are going to be taking pills or put chemicals into your body then you should know exactly what they do right!?!?!

I don’t need a response from you re: the articles. I just want you to know that it’s good to have infromed conscience on these things. After all you don’t want to be killing an fertized egg right???

Thank you, Mommyof02green, for starting this thread. I wish to respond to the JW from the other thread, Ganyemede, on this subject as well. The account that is referred to here is in Genesis 38:6-10.

Actually, when you consider the account that you referenced…**the reason that he was put to death was because he didn’t want to provide offspring **and more importantly; as a result, without offspring the woman would have no family name and no inheritance.
So to protect her inheritance and means of living, his responsibilty by Law, was to give her a child. He was put to death for that reason, not because he felt like practicing birth control.

Nope this is not true. He was put to death for spilling his seed. The punishment for being unwilling to provide offspring was not death but to be spit in the face and stripped of his sandal. Take a look at Deut. 25:7-10

Did you know that even until 1930 contraceptives were condemned by all churches? The Anglicans were the first to relax their stance and all others have followed suit. The Catholic Church stands alone in her insistance that it is sinful.

The story of Onan was discussed, I believe, on a Catholic Answers show…maybe by Jimmy Akin? He said that to say that Onan was killed only because he didn’t want to provide his brother’s wife with a child was ridiculous because there are other instances of men in the OT refusing to do that and not being killed. But those men didn’t spill their seed like Onan did.
